I got so tired of the old fashioned edgers, the electric ones where you had to drag cords around with you, as well as attachment ones hooked to a regular weed-eater that didn't work most of the time. This one is GREAT! No cords, 2 batteries to be able to get the job done and no attachments that end up not working! I love this one because you can weed-eat AND edge all in one tool!
I got a small to medium size yard with large garden. So, I weed eat alot and also use it edge off sidewalk and concrete deck. I have never lost charge while doing these things and never came across anything I could not cut down with it. Sorry, I have nothing bad to say about the GrassHog.
The Black and Decker Battery Trimmer has been a terrific product. I bought it even though i have a gas trimmer because the gas trimmer is too heavy and i have gotten tired of messing with it to get it to start. I just wish the Batteries lasted a little longer before needing to be recharged. Other then that it is a fantastic product and i would highly recomend it.
I'm glad I bought this one rather than the 12 volt from the horror stories I read on the 12 volt one. The 18volt works really well and it is very nice to have the extra battery since it takes both to do my yard!
Gas powered models are too noisey and heavy for me, electric models impractical due to chord length required. This battery operated model is perfect; starts right up, had plenty of power to get the whole trimming job done and line feeds automatically. Battery is interchangeable with several other B&D products we already own. Hard to find in stores near us (sold out), so seems to be a popular choice. No data yet on durability but I hope it lasts several seasons.
I am very glad that it has two batteries because I need both of them to be able to finish my lawn. It is very light weight and works great for the task I need it for. I would recommend it.
Light and adjustable height works well for my wife. First weedeater she has ever liked. Need a small yard, the 2 battery packs are barely enough juice to do our entire yard, we we do have a big yard and fence.
Automatic string feed is poor. A 10" cut is reduced to 8" most of the time before it automatically feeds again. Am not confident with this feature.
I wanted to love this machine and at first I did. I charged the pack and started working my way around the yard. Then, after about 30 minutes of use, the head started making this horrible noise and wouldn't spin. Did not work after turning it off and inspecting it - hasn't worked since.
After charging battery for 10 hours, I only got about 8 minutes of actual trimming time. I re-charged battery for 3 hours as the manual suggested and it lasted about 1-2 minutes before losing all power. This would be a much better tool if Black & Decker put a better battery in it. Because of the poor battery, my 1/2 hour of trimming may take 2-3 days. I called and spoke with a rep from Black & Decker. She told me that with 2 fully charged batteries, I would get about 30 minutes of trim time. This is 18 hours of charging batteries to get only 30 minutes or so. I think this is unreasonable and because of the poor battery life, I am very unsatisfied with this trimmer.
