Purchased this last year after 12 years of splitting wood with a maul. I was reluctant to buy a splitter because I really didn't think it would save much time. I was wrong. I load up the bed of the truck with logs, place the splitter on the tailgate, and my trailer or wheelbarrow below that to catch or drop in the split wood. Pros: Inexpensive. Portable. Plenty of power to split most of the logs I cut (<17" long, <14" diameter). Is working fine into the second season. Cons: Nothing much. I think the user's manual could include more information. I bought a 12 gauge ext. cord but am unsure if that's necessary. I also don't know if any of the surfaces should be cleaned more to extend the life of the unit.
Had splitter all summer after my old gas one broke down. Its so much cheaper than a gas one its not even funny. Easy to assemble. More high winds and big storms again so went through 8 trees worth of splitting.....mostly pines with one birch and one ash. Routinely exceeded the 10 inch limit with no problems....just had to chew around the edges. Had it up on a table with a full wheelbarrow on one side --empty on the other---great production and no bending over---really save on my old back. Its so much more fun without the fumes and noise! So much so that the kids fought over who helped next. Bringing it into the garage when raining was priceless cabin vacation schedule saver. thanks
I bought this at the middle of last summer. So far after splitting at least a cord of wood I must say it has preformed very well. Of course being only5 ton it cannot split large diameter logs but I learned to catch the edge on theses larger ones and shave off so to speak. That works. Love that it uses no gas, just plug and go. Portability is also very good. I can easily wheel it around and load in my van no problem. All in all for the money a very useful tool.
You won't be splitting huge logs with this splitter. But it performed exactly as advertised. I was even able to whittle down a big log by placing the log to split a portion of the log until it was small enough that the splitter could handle. Best features are that is electric and very portable. So far, a good product.
I've had my little log splitter for a few months now. I keep it in the basement to make kindling out of bigger pieces of wood. This machine works great and is very powerful, I would recommend to anyone wanting a compact splitter with plenty of power
I have had several small and large trees taken down around my home and the EARTHQUAKE splitter has handled all but the largest logs. It's portability is great and stores in an upright position so gets out of the way when your not using it. It has sure saved my back from the old fashion method of splitting with an axe. Priced right and handles 99% of my splitting needs.
Bought to split small lots of 1 cord which is enough for me for the winter. Ended up with 2 cords and was able to sell one. The splitter easily handled 10-12 inch x 18-19 long splitting most completely on first pass. A few with horrible knots needed a second pass. The hydraulic return of the push rod worked every time, but does slow the process a little. The need to use both hands to operate the splitter, while a good safety feature, does not allow a free hand to navigate the long if needed. Liked the fact I could put on tail gate of truck and stand there to operate and put the wood right into the truck bed for delivery to where it was stored for the winter.
Have used this about a dozen times. Works good for 6-8” diameter logs, but can bog down on anything 8-10” in diameter, or even if the wood is not 100% dry. I have a hard time believing it is delivering a full 5 ton rating. Wheels could / should be larger for easier transporting across a yard, as to not constantly tip over
I'm happy the wife made me buy it, it made splitting some of the wood I had much easier. for hard woods and even soft woods that are not dry, it doesn't have the punch to split the wood. It also needs a wider wheel base to move over ground that is uneven. But even with that said I am very pleased with it's preformance so far
Bought this in November 2018. Split a chord of hickory and oak in about 6 hours. Beat splitting by hand. Many of the knotty hickory logs were difficult to split and took multiple cycles to split them. But over all This little unit did a satisfactory job. During assembly several bolt holes stripped during tightening with minimal torque, so not sure how long it will stay together. Does not split well below 40 degrees, so it is now stored until spring. So, I've only used this one time.
