I live in a rural area of southern West Virginia on about 30 acres of woods. I need a chainsaw primarily for cutting up dead trees and clearing storm damage. My old chainsaw died after cutting a lot of wood and it was time to get a new one. After reading the reviews online, I purchased this chainsaw at Walmart yesterday. I spent the afternoon pouring over the manual I downloaded from the product page at Walmart.com, which gives more detailed information than the paper manual that comes with it. I tried the chainsaw out this morning and found that, of all the different models I have owned, it is the easiest to use. It started up with very few pulls and cut through some fairly large logs like a hot knife through butter. The controls are ergonomically placed and the machine is well balanced, making precise cutting very controllable. I was able to carve out a channel to place one log on top of another to form a bench. I like the nose guard and it will definitely help with cutting stumps close to the ground. Its also a benefit having an included chain shroud, which makes carrying it safer. I included the saw in the pictures to give a sense of scale.
Great saw for after storm clean up. A little challenging to start but runs and cuts smooth. Good size, plus guard on tip is a nice safety feature for inexperienced users.
I got the Black Max 16" chainsaw a few days ago, but today was the first day with no rain, so I decided to go outside and try it out. This saw comes already assembled right out of the box, you don't have to install the bar and chain like on most saws. Filled it w/ premix 50:1 fuel and bar oil, pumped the primer a few times, pulled out the choke, and gave it about 4 pulls. Pushed in the choke and it started on the first pull. I let it idle for a few minutes and went to work. I cut down 4 small trees, and pruned limbs on several more, and it performed very well. After about 30 minutes, the chain loosened up a bit ( normal with a new chain ) so I tightened it up, very easy to do and they even provide a handy multi-tool to do it with. Another 30 minutes, several more small trees and limbs, and my yard and trees are looking much better! I highly recommend this unit, it seems to be of good quality and so far has performed very well for me. I have lots of trees around my place, so I think I will be using it a lot. Give one a try, you will like it!
Didn't have any problems with it started fine cut up a nice big pecan tree took a few days saw ran great.
The Black Max Sixteen Inch Chain Saw is a nice Saw to have around for your cutting needs,it is a two cycle,Thirty Eight CC engine for the ultimate power,it has Anti-Vibe System for increased user comfort. It is an automatic oilier to help extend the bar and chain life.It has the chain brake and the tip guard for a safer use.It came with the Two cycle engine lubricant, combination wrench,Blade cover,Scabbard, and the operations manual. We have an old pear tree that is in the back yard, the fruit on it is not tasty to eat and it has a lot of damage to it from storms and insects and is splitting in apart, which is common for these types of trees so this saw was a good choice to take it down and it worked very well on this job,on the trunk with cut it in smaller sections to keep the saw from having to over work the saw and put it in a bind, did great now have some extra wood for the fireplace,we still have some stump to finish off but we have not had a problem with it,this spring we will use it to cut some of the limbs in the pecan tree that got some storm damage. We had to vary on the starting instructions it would not start after trying several time my husband tried a different method and it cranked right up,but i think that is a given on any gas powered chain saws.I like this very much and a great saw to have in the shop.
This is a great little saw for a hobbyist that doesnt need much. trimming the backyard of small trees and limbs. It starts easy and runs good and isnt too hard on the arms. My old Jonsered was tired and this is a good enough saw for me. The brand is owned by Hart who is owned by TTI and they also own Milwaukee so surely it's made with some quality.
The Black Max 38 cc 2Cycle Chain Saw has great features. The non vibration feature is great when using this chain saw for an extended period of time. Our hands didnt get tored when cutting and taking down bamboo trees. The safer system, the brake is a great feature for quick shut off. The plastic sleeve for.rhe chain, I will reused when storing. This isnliggt weight in comparison to other models. The size is perfect for cutting down trees. Well built amd sturdy. Did need too much gas to get our bamboo tree down, cut it down fast. Fits good in the hand.
I just recently recieved the "Black Max 38cc 2-Cycle Engine 16-inch Gas Chainsaw" from the wonderful sparks program! I was soo excited to get this product and I'm so glad I did. I have been needing to clean up some trees around the house so this was the perfect time to use it! To start off it is a 2 cycle gas powered chainsaw as the title mentions. It did really well cutting just about anything you would want chopped up. Since it isn't the best chainsaw out there though it does tend to bog down if you strain it pretty good. But it works really well for small brush, chopping up wood, cutting down smaller sized trees or simple things around the house of that sort. If you have to get a chainsaw and use it all day everyday this is not the chainsaw for you. The Black Max chainsaw is good for simple homeowner stuff for cleaning up the property but not to rely on for heavy jobs. If it is an emergency this would be something decent to have nearby, it is better than not having anything at all. It just doesn't have the power or ease the top brands have. Also the nose guard at the end of the chainsaw gets in the way of cutting sometimes and can get you hung up depending on what you're cutting. It is not cheap quality, I actually am surprised of how well it is made. Starting it up didn't take long at all and after warming it up it ran for quite awhile. On one tank of gas I think I was able to chop up 4 or 5 dead standing trees and also get about 4 or 5 hours of work out of it. The chain and bar stay lubricated well while working as long as you keep oil in it. I only had to fill it up the first time before using it. The size and weight of this chainsaw isn't bad either. At 11lbs it isn't too difficult to handle and maintain while working. When you purchase this it also comes with a 3oz. bottle of oil to mix with a gallon of gas before you use it. And a spark plug wrench and also an adjuster all in one to tighten the chain when needed. So overall I think this chainsaw did pretty well with the work I needed to get done. It's no top notch brand by any means but it gets the job done and it's reliable when you need it.
First off make sure the local store has replacement parts (chain, bar spark plug, recoil spring, starter cord, etc) second make sure you check all the tanks before using it, lastly don't bother getting the extended warranty. It's a complete hassle and waste of money. Nothing is backed up or replaced. The store has managed to weasel itself from all responsibility and I'm left with a busted saw used once. Worthless!!!
The Chainsaw ran okay at first, but quickly fell apart. The handle is constructed of a hard plastic-handle cracked not a week into the BlackMax 16in chainsaw being ran. I contacted customer support about three weeks ago-still waiting on reply. Final answer-avoid. Even if offered at a steep discount-avoid this brand.
