Nearly everyone I asked about buying an electric log splitter tried to talk me out of it. I thought of it as “range anxiety”, similar to the old concern with electric cars. First, this is well designed mechanically. Super strong and reinforced at the right places. Second, no fume, no rumbling gas engine, making it much more pleasant to split wood. Third, the cycle time is fast enough to keep up with my ability to move the wood from the needs-splitting pile to ah-nicely-split pile. I love that I can easily tow it from the garage to the pile using my ATV. I use it both horizontally for the smaller pieces and vertically for the big tomtoms. The only challenge I had was my long 110v extension cord caused too much of a voltage drop. I am switching the motor wiring to 220v.
Assembly of the splitter was straight forward. I only needed assistance with the step of lifting and mounting the Ibeam onto the wheel base. The unit operated well while splitting wood for the first winter. I had no breaker problems using a 20 amp circuit and a 10 gauge extension cord. Easy on and off with no fumes.
This splitter works like expected. Gets through even the knottiest wood. We are very happy with out purchase.
After 38 years of sitting behind a gas splitter - this electric splitter is a breath of fresh air AND it works great!
Splitter works great on 120VAC/15 amp breaker. However, it did trip when it bound up. I switched to a 20 amp breaker and 10ga wire and it performed fine. I would like to have instructions on how to covert the motor to 240 VAC to reduce the load on the motor.
Bought this about 3 weeks ago. Assembled as directed. Right wheel came off during transit....what a disaster!!!!
