So I have had some form of Kidde in my home since we got married in 88', be it fire extinguishers or alarms. I have 24 smoke detectors throughout my home right now. I installed the first interconnected 7 AC/DC units back in Aug/01. Prior to that they were all just independent. Then as my home (and family) expanded, wireless was more accessible. In 2013, I installed 16 wireless units, but kept the AC/DC 7 too. So today I changed out all 23 detectors, yes its a lot of money, but every 10 years is well worth it. I have only had false alarms when excessive heat suddenly hits an alarm (hot dust particles?) from the attic steps being pulled down in ceiling. Not an issue though, quick turn off button. If you lined up 26 of these alarms in a row (A-Z) as long as A sends a signal to B and so on and so on, then Y will send to Z. Each wireless is it's own power source. So just test for distance and obstruction before installing. I have these alarms on both levels, in garages, basement, every room, even one in the water heater room. I even put an independent unit in the kitchen that is not connected to any of the other 23. The kitchen one goes off anytime they open the oven that has hot steam coming out, but it's a backup in case the fridge catches fire during the night. I change it completely out once a year due to various cooking particles in the air that may clog it. But then again being in the fire service, I don't take chances with my family. You do have to pay attention when installing them to air flow (hvac supply/return vents), doors, corners, etc. ......seconds count.....so yes, I have an extinguisher in every room too. I also just called today to get a replacement ceiling mounting plates because I broke 3 trying to change them out. I was surprised how easy the replacement ordering was, so thank you. Just my $.02 worth : )
Used to replace same alarm that was installed in our home. They are great, no false alarms ever. Easy to install. The old alarms are 10 years old and needed to be replaced. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Came perfectly wrapped no damage
A relatively new product in smoke alarms....I was looking for smoke alarms which would all alarm if only a single one activated, but at the same time, didn't require interconnected wiring. These Kidde alarms fit the bill perfectly. If any single one in the multi-alarm installation alarms, the remainder of the alarms also alarm. Great product.
This product eases my fears that a local alarm may not be heard and a major conflagration could break ou before my family could respond to the emergency. The ability to trip all the alarms by a "smoke" occurence or manually through a "test" procedure fills a gap in emergency readiness.
They all worked just fine wireless good 6 hooked together
This alarm's design provided the easiest setup and installation of any of the alarms I considered purchasing. The setup process was very clear and easily performed. Testing the unit was very straight forward. This product is a great choice for adding interconnected smoke alarms when remodeling to meet current building codes.
I have had a set of these for ten years needed to be replaced. The best feature is they all alert when one unit does. Being a firefighter for over 20 years this feature is important. I had a first floor detector go off in the middle of the night. I woke up but thought I was dreaming. I could not believe that I could barley hear it. Luckily it was not an actual fire. After that I did some looking and found these units. The only bad part is if you burn food its really loud. I would recommend these to anyone who cares about their family. I think all detectors should have this function
Actually, I was looking for wireless linked, battery powered, dual sensor alarms. Seems nobody has gotten around to offering such a thing. If Kidde would even offer compatible alarms with optical sensors to interact with these, it would be nice. In the meantime, this will have to do. They haven't alarmed yet, and I hope they never do, but if they sense a fire, in that case I hope they do.
My company installed 8 of these units in a clients house. Within 4 months we had already made 6 service calls to the house and replaced 4 of the units at our expense. The units continue to alarm for no reason. Usually at 2 or 3 in the morning. Now we have removed all the units and replaced them with another brand at the companies expense. Just can not rely on this product to function properly. You would think a company like Kiddie would sell a quality smoke detector seeing how they are within the top 2 suppliers in the country if not the world. I will never recommend or sell another Kiddie product.
