Not surprised that all of these reviews say the same thing - here I am, awake at 11:30pm because, once again, these alarms are going off for no reason. My husband is a firefighter. We know how to install and use and test these things. But this model is horrible. I have an extremely sensitive 7yo who has been woken up so many times by these, but tonight the offending unit is in my bedroom (thank goodness, I guess?). I have no idea what the issue is. They are less than a year old. There is no rhyme or reason besides it always being at night. I will be trashing all three tomorrow and finding something else.
I have five of these in my house that were installed in October 2017. They go off all the time, to the point that my three year old has developed an obsessive fear of smoke alarms and things mounted on the ceiling. I've replaced three of the five with new units, thinking the old ones were some how defective or got full of dust. One of those just started going off randomly and it was only installed 35 days ago. To make matters worse, the button doesn't usually silence them so I either have to hit it repeatedly hoping it starts working or end up permanently deactivating them. These are absolute trash and worse than having no smoke alarms at all.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Bought as a replacement for a unit that went bad (well before the ten year battery life); fit perfectly, which is what I was hoping for.
I installed the unit on 4/29/2020. Unit manufacture date 2/12/2020. Unit failed 10/5/2021. The unit started alarming with no fire or smoke. Unit would not reset or stop alarming. After reading these reviews, I'll just avoid the headache and cost of trying to get Kidde to do the right thing and buy a competitor's product. Too bad because it's a great idea and easy to use/ install. I may have been happier if it made it 5 or 6 years before it crapped the bed, but 1.5 years is unacceptable.
Brand new installed and it didn't even go off with food burning on the stove
I installed this less than a year ago, and it's giving regular false alarms in the middle of the night. It's not dirty and I've troubleshot everything else it could be. I worry that if there was a true emergency, I wouldn't know it, and would think it was another false alarm.
Twice now with this or similar model, I've been awoken in a panic in the early hours of the morning due to battery failure. In both cases, the alarm could not have been more than 18 months old. It cannot be easily removed from the ceiling; must unscrew the whole anchor. It cannot be easily disabled once removed, at least not in a way that's obvious or easy at 3 AM. Two strikes is enough.
Bought this just over a year ago and one day the alarm activated at a random time. Could not get it to stop. Had to permanently disable it. Complete waste of money.
I bought this for my kid, he installed it in his house and it went off 2 times in 24 hours with no smoke or fire. Not sure what's wrong with it.
We got 2 years of use before the smoke alarm started intermittently beeping for no reason. Waste of money.
