I found this product easy to install. I thought the instructions were a little difficult but mainly because the print was so small. After installation, the light switch worked exactly as it should have. I had to re-read operation instructions to fully understand what to expect and after a little adjustment, it works great.
I wanted to add "motion detection" to two lights which are on either side of my front door. The Heath Zenith product seems well made for it's cost. In a situation where there is a single switch to replace with the Heath Zenith, the installation will be simple and fast. In my case, the existing switch controlling the two outside lights was part of a 3-switch complex. I asked a friend of mine who knows electrical work better than me to help. He quickly saw how to connect the wires and installed and tested the Heath Zenith in about 10-minutes. I tested it extensively and am very pleased with it's operation. The only negative I have was unique to my situation. I had to buy a three switch face (less than $2.00) and couldn't use the single switch face which came with the unit. The Heath Zenith switch is slightly off-white in color and impossible to perfectly match with off the shelf plate faces. However, the difference is barely noticeable and not a problem for me.
After reading other reviews I almost didn't get this switch. My experience so far is good. I had absolutely no problem installing it in a 3-gang box with 2 other Decora switches, one a dimmer. I use the DualBrite function and it works great, keeping the lights on after sundown for about 3 hours. Only thing, it could be a little dimmer in dim mode. Sort wish there was an adjustment. Also, be sure to set ALL switches in the sensor before installing the batteries. I have 2 60-watt incandescent and 1 50-watt halogen spot and the switch is only slightly warm when on. I've had it installed for a couple of weeks now and really like it.
To improve this item it would be excellent if the accent light good go down to 25% as well as 50% of power.
Goes on and off sporadically sometimes staying on until it has to be switch it off. When you call for help they are very willing to try and get it working. I have called three times and will try again. But looks like it's might have to be a returned.
Didn't work properly: We installed this motion sensor and light switch (SL-6053-SH) ourselves (we're very handy) to be wirelessly connected with an existing outdoor light. The light is supposed to come on when motion is detected by the sensor, but it did not. The light did come on when we manually flicked the switch. We called the manufacturer's customer service rep who verified that we had installed it properly, and we no doubt had a defective product. We returned it to our local WalMart (very convenient). We ordered another motion sensor set from WalMart.com, but a slightly different product (SL-6051-SH). I could've ordered it from a different online retailer for less money, but if I have to return it, it's more convenient to retun it to my local WalMart.
We had a similar motion sensor by the same company before but it finally wore out. This one was supposed to stay on dim at night which our other one didn't. My husband installed it just the way he had installed the old one and it did not work. He called the company and after trying the suggested things he was told that the product was defective. I would not buy this particular model again.
lights will not automatically turn off after selected time. lights come on as directed however no matter what setting selected will not turn off automatically. love the idea...I may try another one...lets hope this one is just faulty.
