The single player game is a very fun experience...Good action and lots of shooting...But like any other game that comes out at first...Always needs some fixes...but other than that....Very good game and I would recommend to others....
Black Ops I got this game at about 12:15am release day, and I could not stop playing till work the next day. I told myself I wouldn't do this, but that obviously didn't happen. ***Cons*** 1 Major problem with multiplayer is the server lag, but that will be fixed in no time. Even with this issue I couldn't stop playing multiplayer. Uses Steam in tandem with the game to host multiplayer games. The game multiplayer option is not very intuitive for new users to say the least even more so in Zombie mode. I am not a fan boy of Steam, it sometimes crashes my computer, and causes odd latency problems, but I deal with it to play good games like Black Ops. To play a multiplayer zombie game you have to start the single player version of the game. I could not play with my friends using steam like other steam games. I had to use the friends list in single player version of black ops. Then invite my friends, and start a game. Then the friends had to user the friends list in the single player (not steam), select the game invite tab, and then join my game. Not easy, but worth it after we figured it out. ***Pros*** Dedicated servers plus official game servers Zombie mode is not DLC it's in the game at release. I tested out the Zombie survival mode. Played that with 3 of my friends for several hours and I was addicted. I will enjoy many hours of Zombie Mode in the near future. I played this while multiplayer was lagging out. Single player was beautiful and interesting, but I did not waste a lot of time playing single player my reason for getting Black Ops was for the multiplayer. Game never crashed on me, release games often are not the most stable. This game was not the case for PC at least, very stable for 7 hours of play. Still had server lag though Multiplayer was awesome minus the lag and this is a partial review of what is in multiplayer, and by no means complete. New maps all with the same old game play types, but lots of new game types that will keep me interested for a long time to come. They made some perk changes that I feel helped to balance the multiplayer. They added the flack-jacket to reduce explosive damage which helps with tubers and frag crazy people. Nice balance addition imho. Bling is changed to warlord, and no under barrel attachments are allowed which helps to again balance the weapon load out (they added a flamethrower as an under barrel attachment @@ awesome). They added contracts which give you goals during multiplayer for extra cash, and exp. Contracts can be picked to go with your play style. They have time limits for completion giving you nice side challenges while you play. You buy the perks, modifications, load outs, and kill streaks once you unlock the level requirement. They added lots of new weapons that you should all look forward to unlocking and using. The customization of multiplayer is amazing. You can finally make your guy truly yours from the look, to weapon load out. You can write fraises on your weapons, add slash marks for kills if you like. Make custom icons for you character, customer tags, custom weapon sites etc, etc, etc, I can't say enough about the customization it is almost limitless. I can't confirm this, but the game map cycling appeared to change based on the # of players currently playing. When we had 9 on 9 it appeared to play larger maps, and when it was 2 on 3 it transitioned nicely every time to smaller quick maps. Overall the game met my expectations, and I figured there would be server lag @ release which I am sure EA will work hard to remedy right away. Highly recommend the multiplayer aspect and the zombie mode, and I don't know enough about the single player to recommend it, but overall an amazing FPS with lots of new changes.
This game was at the top of my husbands gift list this year and he was THRILLED to see it under the tree. I'm not a gamer, but he loves the game and the fact that he could get a PC version since he doesn't have any of the other gaming devices.
I only play in the solo mode as there are just too many people on the internet who play all day and develop a very unfair advantage. I loved the game but this is not for kids. Even with the blood and guts turned down, this still is not a kids game. A lot of up close and personal killing. I enjoyed the entire series of Call to Duty and each one improves on the previous version. Highly reccomended for a more mature gamer.
My wife work for Walmart and brought this game for me. I love it, but at first had trouble with lag and more, but they got that fixed. And my AMD X2 5400 runs it fine. GREAT GAME
Been buying Call of Duty (CoD) games since the original on PC. CoD:Black Ops continues in the great tradition of excellent war shooter CoD titles. Overall Rating 4 Stars: Not perfect as some of the FX and graphics seem a little bit of a step back from the previous CoD:Modern Warfare 2 (which was made by the studio "Infinity Ward", Black Ops is made by the studio "TreyArch.") Game *still* looks excellent though, plays well, and has all the perks/attachments/camos and extras you could want and hope for. I especially like the inclusion of good Cooperative modes to play with family/friends, like the "Combat Training" gamemode. Value 5 Stars: Top notch because I couldn't find a better deal anywhere else on release day. An extra 10% off being a Walmart Associate didn't hurt either. :) Meets Expectations 5 Stars: Fun and addictive Multiplayer. Lots of different gamemodes to play (Cooperative modes are great!!). Singleplayer Campaign interesting though somewhat sloppy in execution at times, but the rest of the package makes up for the shortcomings there. Definitely recommend this to any wargame first person shooter enthusiast.
I bought this game today from a local wamart store and installed it. I have a computer with a quad Q-8300 processor, 4 gigs of ram and a Nvidia 9600 GT video card. I was able to install it but when it came time to have fun. The game wouldn't respond and checking my CPU use I found it was pegged at 100%. With the game not running ( or trying to run) my CPU was running at 5%. I am hearing about patches coming out to correct the problem with the PC version. It is sad that a brand new game out of the box is full of bugs. I am not impressed.
Good if you have a high end pc, otherwise don't take the chance. played mw2 for a while now and have a lot of friends who can not get the game to play or it doesn't run well. Highly disappointed with my purchase. Otherwise Wal-mart had it delivered on the release date with no problems. thx walmart, get to work Treyarc!
we bought this for xmas for my boyfriend and he cant connect to any online games! the lag is so bad its insane! on the RARE occasions he gets into a game its normally so slow that the round is over when he gets in or if he gets killed the respawn time wastes most of the match. he plays it on the xbox at friends places and loves it and he occasionally will play against the computer and that works fine but online play is nearly impossible. dont waste your money on the PC version, just get it for xbox or wait till they fix the servers because for right now its not worth it
This game is very buggy and is unplayable for me in its current state. There is a bug causing excessive CPU and Memory usage resulting in low framerates and lots of pausing. On top of this there is also server lag. All this seems to be universal for everyone according to the forums. After this game is patched it will probably be good and I will update this review. My specs: Core I7 960 @ 4.2 GTX 480 6gig 1600 RAM
