This thing works great. This little device does such a wonderful job and so easy to use and it has so many uses other than just taking your child's temperature. You'll find yourself taking the temperature of everything. STOP READING THESE REVIEWS AN BUY TWO OF THESE!!!! One for you and one for your best friend. They will thank you every time they see you.
Works great on my newborn! Received as a gift and started using recently, no problems with accuracy of readings.
We've had this thermometer for 4 months now. When we first got it, we compared temperatures between this thermometer and other thermometers and found them to be nearly identical. It's great to not have to disturb or wake your child to be able to take a temperature. The thermometer is very simple to use, so simple that you don't ever feel like it's a burden to get it out and take a temperature. There are also no extra parts to buy. It's also somehow a lot of fun to use - so much that we find ourselves playing with it, testing the temperature of everything around, even our pets. The only reasons we didn't give it 5 stars for all points is because it isn't intuitive to navigate the different settings, such as measuring the temperature of water and food. Admittedly, we haven't read the directions or watched the instructional DVD, but the fact that we can't just figure it out speaks for itself.
I bought this thermometer because I was tired of my horribly inaccurate and difficult to use ear thermometer and my toddler is too little to sit still long enough to take a temp under the arm or in the mouth. I was debating between this one and the more expensive "5 in 1 plus" model that is available only on-line. They had this one in my local Wal-Mart and I wanted it immediately because my child was sick, so I decided to give it a try. It is so easy to use - no need to touch the child and gives a temperature reading in seconds. It is also very accurate. I took it with me when I took my daughter to the doctor's office and it was within 0.2 degrees of their thermometer (the kind that you glide over the forehead). I also took my own temp with an oral digital thermometer and an oral mercury thermometer it was exactly the same. I am not sure what the difference between this one and the more expensive model are. It came with a DVD that I haven't watched yet, so that might highlight the addition features of the more expensive model. Overall this is a great product and I think I am going to start giving as a baby gift to my friends because it sure beats the other methods of taking a baby's temp.
We really like the fact that you don't have to actually touch the person to take their temperature so you don't have to worry about germs. You have to follow the directions precicely to get an accurate reading, and sometimes the baby won't hold her head still so it can be difficult. However, it seems much more accurate and easier than our ear thermometer with a little practice. I recommended it to my SIL who is getting ready to have her first baby.
I read one of the previous reviews where the lady sais " you will find your self taking the temperature of everything in your house". Well she was so right I use it at least 4 time a day and is very accure. Some of my friends are getting it too.
Product is very easy to use. Point the thermometer to the forward and if you get a red solid dot on child's forehead, you are doing this right. If the thermometer is too far or too near, you get 2 red dots or blurry dots, hence you can't go wrong with knowing you get this at the right distance. I purchase this thermometer mainly because of the no touch feature. When you have a cranky child, using an arm or oral thermometer does not quite work well. Child continues to sleep undisturb with this one. The other pro is it usually a standard battery size, AAA or AA i don't quite remember, but is isn't the round battery like one of my previous ear thermometer has. Our home always have spares on AA/AAA batteries for child toys so this is a pro to us. I would have it given it 5 stars if this product comes with a back lit. One does need to switch on a small lamp light to read the temperature, since there wasn't a backlit on it. Other than that, this is an awesome buy!
I was very disappointed in this product. I read all the reviews and expected a LOT. It just was too variable in the Temperatures it registered even w/in a short period on the same individual. We even replaced the batteries that came w/ the device for our Duracell but this did not enhance performance. We were trying to use this product in an office setting and it may be more reliable for home. If I had children I would consider again because it does allow checking w/o awakening to chk a temp.
I have an ear thermometer and it works fine but I was waking my kids up in the middle of the night to check for fever. So, I thought this thermometer was the answer. It may work fine for someone who has kids that don't move their heads at all and if you always take the temp in the same well lit room, but not for me. The packaging and instructions are for the updated version, so it doesn't have as many functions as the directions tell. Also, It has to "calibrate" every time you are in a new room if it's a different temperature, which my kids sleep in air conditioning. So, when I went into their room to take my sick daughters temp, it had to "calibrate" for 3 minutes and 30 seconds it said, not to mention the fact that I had to actually have the light on to see the display. I also took my temp mulitple times with my ear thermometer & this one and they were a whole degree off everytime. It also says that if your child is sweating to not take the temp. Which is fine to wipe their heads, but again this would wake up a sleeping child, at least mine. I aplogize if I sound upset, I'm not, that's the nice thing about walmart, you can return it if you don't like it. I'm not sure if there are other forhead thermometers that work better, but this one is not for me. God Bless!
We purchased this thermometer, having seen the school nurse using one (probably the hospital version, rather than the cheaper one). We liked that we did not have to come in contact with our sons' bodies to take temperatures. That way, we wouldn't have to wake our baby, and our 3-year-old wouldn't have anything inserted in his ear, bum, armpit or mouth. Unfortunately, when we tried this thermometer on ourselves and our sons, it was not consistent. I tried 5 readings, one minute apart on my 3-year-old and got 5 different readings varying by 2.3 degrees total. That's just not to be trusted in our book, if we have to confirm the reading by using one of our other thermometers. We're returning the thermometer to the store.
