It really does need a filter kit as well. And I located a small heater for this size tank at another vendor online.
This is the ideal tank I've been looking for. I have limited space on my desk so this tank is the perfect size AND it's big enough to keep my beta fish happy. I don't use the pump right now since it doesn't seem to need it but depending on which heater you get, the tank may be a bit thin for it (most heaters are a bit bigger than you'd like for this kind of tank). The lid is snug (which is great for protecting my fish from my cats). I do wish there were a few more air holes in the lid (there's just one - for feeding). The lights work great too, very bright and gives a beautiful vibe when on in the dark.
Ordered the Hawkeye aquarium thru site to store, with no problems. The main reason this aquarium was bought was it is narrow and will fit on my kitchen window ledge. You can look into the aquarium with natural light. The aquarium looks as advertised, clear and tall. Only negative things are 1.Having problem with the bubble wall putting out even bubbles across the full length of the back wall, and a small amount of condensation around the black tank top that drips down. All in all I like the aquarium and would buy it again. Have a betta and a very small cory catfish living in the tank as of now.
I easily onvverted this into a a nice refugium fuge for my salt water tank. I may have voided the warranty when I drilled the holes but at that price don't care.
I was impressed with this tank until I realized the description seemed to be rather misleading. Don't mention a 'light' if there isn't really a light included. A clear hood doesn't count as a light. Other than that, it's a great product.... just be sure to get fish you'd prefer not to see very well. I will likely be returning this item. Like I said, Almost perfect. Thanks.
I purchased this for a single goldfish that had really outgrown his previous tank. I really like the size and the fact that it is not as deep as most and fits well on my kitchen counter. It has an under gravel filter that is supposed to have bubbles come up all along the back edge. The pump that is provided is too weak to allow more than one small stream of bubbles. I tried another pump which allowed 2 streams of bubbles- one much stronger that the other. The fish was obsessed with the stronger bubble stream and I feared that he would swallow excessive air. I finally purchased a small inside filter for 1-3 gallons with a cartridge. That works VERY well. I would recommend this tank because of the design, but would only use the under gravel filter for perhaps guppys, neons or such. Goldfish are very dirty and this filter is not adequate.
Pump is loud, need to clean more often, don't put gravel or sand it sucks to clean. Can't put medium sized decor--too narrow. My Beta likes it, since Betas swim back and forth not up and down.
