I took several months doing research on affordable scales (under $50) and this is the scale I finally chose. It is an excellent machine and I can tell it was programed by engineers, because of its efficient features and the way it calculates the body fat (by percentage of water). In order to be very effective, one needs to be well hydrated (which is always a good thing, especially for a healthy lifestyle) and get on the scale after getting bare feet slightly damp. The metal foot sensors then use the water to calculate your body's %water and from there it is fairly accurate to conclude weight and body fat. Other reviewers complained about the speed it shuffles through the information, but I do not think it is too fast. Were it any slower, I would be board standing there waiting for the next figure. As with any scale, it is important to average out your readings over a month or so and to be sure to weigh at the same time each day, but this scale is fantastic. Its flat surface will also be nice to use when I want to weigh items like large suitcases before checking them on to a plane. My only complaint is that it makes a loud beep before starting a reading, but that is certainly overlooked with every positive aspect of the product.
Like many of you who are looking to buy a scale, I wanted this one for it's bells and whistles. I am on a journey to improve my health and to do it wisely I wanted to tracking my weigth and body fat content, along with the calories, etc. This scale does it all. However, beware of one drawback (in my opinion). Once you enter your age, height, etc...into this scale you can save the data into your own profile (you can have multiple profiles). Then you select your profile and step on the scale to get your analysis. Once the analysis completes, the screen provides information regarding your fat %, calorie goal, etc...It goes through several screens to communicate all these data to you. The problem I have is that the thing toggles between these screens too fast. Before I can jot down my body fat content, the screen changes to the next set of information! I end up having to step on the scale multiple times just to make sure I can write down all the I missed the first go-around. They should have allowed you to push a button to navigate to the next or previous screen. Why the rush?
This Taylor Body Fat Scale with Daily Calorie Function, Model 5596, was my second purchase because I liked the first model so well. You can't beat the value through Wal-Mart and it's accurate enough and has more than the basic electronic features I wanted in a simple weight and body fat scale. The only drawback is that you have to go through Taylor's setting up routine before each weigh-in. If all you want is to know your weight, then all you have to do is simply step on it. Otherwise, you'll have to tap the Mode, toggle through each measuring option, step on and record the data. It's pretty cool, accurate enough for me, and keeps me in check each week.
Great scale and very accurate. I bought another bmi scale for my mother and the readings vary from one minute to the next depending on how you step on it or where you place it. It helps so much for those of us who are training and dieting. You see the fat loss and that is so encouraging. Worth every penny.
This scale is awesome! I just got it in the mail and have already programed my info into it. I do not agree with other users that the directions are confusing or it is difficult to program. If you just read through the directions thoroughly, it should be set up quite easily! It does take a few times to go through what the numbers actually mean, but that should be expected when using a new product. Once you get used to it and know what to look for, then it shouldn't be a problem. It is easy to go back and review your settings, and the beeps make it easy for you to know what step is next. The weight measurement is showing me about 3 pounds lighter than my gym scale but I think my gym scale needs to be recalibrated. I say that because before I got this scale I bought (and returned) two other scales and all three read the same weight, about 3 pounds lighter than my gym scale. I have never had my body fat measurements professionally taken so I have no clue if that is accurate. However, I have researched many online body fat estimators and they all seem to say the same as the estimation this scale gave me. The daily calorie function is great as well! Again, I have used many online calculators to figure out the caloric intake needed for my weight and the scale gave me numbers very similar to those. I just bought it and so far there are no kinks. We will see how it works in the long run! Normally, before I buy a product I read all of the reviews online about it. Most of these reviews were positive so I took a chance and couldn't be happier!
I bought this scale a couple months ago. I haven't used it as often as I was hoping to, however, I have used it enough. It's not a hard scale to program with all your stats, the only thing that I don't like is that I can't put my son's age in since it won't go below 12 I think. I'm assuming that's because the settings are used for weight management and it wouldn't be for someone under that age. I would suggest going through the 3 page manual on the settings and how to read the display. I would recommend this product for anybody that wants to know the key elements for proper fat loss. Don't go by weight if you're planning on getting fit, focus on your water content (make sure you're hydrated) and your fat % (lower this instead of your weight). For the price, you cannot go wrong. :)
We purchased a similar model Taylor scale for a few bucks less and the buttons on the scale were hard to press or else they would stick and render the scale useless until we figured out the problem. The Taylor 5596 is MUCH better. It was hard to enter body information on all of the scales we tried but this model was the easiest for the price. I would highly recommend purchasing this scale.
This scale does everything it says it will and is a great deal for the price. I don't like that when you step on it to get the body fat percent that it scrolls through everything so fast. I have to get on it a couple times to get all of the information. Other than that it is a great deal.
What this scale claims to do is exactly what i was looking for..i wanted something to measure my body fst %..And as long as you do it at the same time every day and not drink or eat anything before it should be fairly accurate. Well, i would use it every morning right when i got up and the weight was pretty much the same or close everyday, and pretty accurate to my old scale..but the body fat % would change everyday, usually from like 19%-22%.. and i thought thats a major difference..but other then that it works pretty good and i like how it tells u what they recommend you weigh and how many calories you need to consume to keep your current weight.
When first opened the battery pack was loose. I used it faithfully for 2 months then the weight readings were completely off (I think due to my 2 year old standing on it). So I recalibrated it and it would work once/twice then give wrong weights again. Soon after recalibrating all the time the battery pack became completely detached from the wiring. Fell apart too quickly and scale too sensitive to lose calibration. This time I just want a simple scale where kids can stand on it without breaking it.
