I wanted a simple way to record piano songs from my kids and email them out to family members. The iRig works with our generation 1 iPad, and includes cables to connect the iRig to the MIDI ports on the piano. You just download the IRig recorder app from the iTunes app store and you're ready to go. The ports on the iRig are just in and out...connect the in to out on the instrument, and out to in. The app is very simple...just hit a record button, have the person play a song and hit record again to stop. You need to register the iRig to email the songs, this is easily done via the app. One note, the recording app saves the files as a .mid...this format can be opened using QuickTime, or you can use iTunes to covert the .mid to a .wav which people can open with other media players like Microsofts. Product works as advertised - recommend it
Great product for a good price. Money well spent.
