What a godsend this sorter is! We had a ton of change (over $200.00) when we bought this sorter. It rolled all the coins and really only got stuck 2 times, which is awesome. It worked steadily for well over 1/2 hour.
So far I'm very happy with this sorter. It has worked great and so far no jams!!!! The count has been accurate as well. I know this because I counted 200.00 by hand first then dumped half in the hopper first then the second half and the count came out to 200.00. Its only been a couple weeks now, and if this continues, I'll be very happy.
The FS-4000 claims an anti-jam design which I can concur design does indeed limit coin jams. My two jams were self induced by tokens and dollar coins and easily cleared. Sorts only Q's, D's, N's and P's! Sorter occasionally mis-sorted on dimes placing them in quarter and nickel tubes. By limiting the use of wrappers in clear sorting tubes, this appears to reduce mis-sorting. Also, using only clear tubes without wrappers loaded makes mis-sorts ease to spot. Once tube is full, you can easily slip preformed wrapper around coins in the tubes. Speed is very good as sorted $700 + in change in less than 3 hours. Unit is not overly loud while running.
I used this machine for 2 years, 3000 quarters a week. It took a beating and just kept working. You DO have to learn about the machines ideocincracies and what causes jam ups and how to avoid that, but I have not had a coin sorter yet that I did not have to "learn how to use". I did have to take it apart monthly and clean it and retrieve a few misc coins that fall through the cracks, but like I said, it got very heavy use. I would purchase it again.
I have a tough time with this review because the machine worked very well for about $225 worth of coins. At that point, it jammed and something inside seemed to have broken. I brought it back and Wal-Mart quickly refunded my money. What makes it tough to rate is that I have no idea if perhaps I overloaded the hopper or if something else happened and it was just a fluke. It looks and felt well made. In a few years when I have collected enough change to do it again, I might be willing to give this model another chance. It sorted that first batch of coins a lot faster than I did the remaining coins. Wal-Mart now offers a commercial grade sorter that skims 10% off the top to do the sorting at the store. While that would have cost me about $95 this time around, that's not so bad if a machine such as this one only lasts through a few thousand dollars worth of sorting...
I work for a non-profit that does a fundraiser involving lots of coins. In an effort to save us the fee charged by the bank for handling coins I purchased this machine. It worked great at first but quickly began to make mistakes in sorting and especially counting. I can only hope the rolls I had already done and brought in to the bank were correct. I bought this to help us, not make more mistakes for us. We ended up having to count every row that came out, most were not right, so I ended up returning the product. I am willing to spend more money on a product, but that's so it will live up to it's claims. This one did not.
It has the price of an expensive sorter but don't let the fool you. It's got an anti jam system but still I had to stop, every 2 minutes to unscrew the back and find the problem. Also the coins would fall out of the cylinders and get jammed inside the machine so now I couldn't close the cylinders all the way until I took everything of of the machine. This was nothing but a pain and I would never recommend this to anyone.
