My husband hasn't wanted a phone until now to have something just in case of an emergency. It's great for him, its easy for him to use. It's not a smart phone, which he didn't want, it fits his needs perfectly.
Voices sound great on both sides. Good camera. Walmart should list that it has speed dialing - I had to find it myself. Texting is slow or it would rate 5 stars. Like I said, everything I need. And with Straight Talk I'm paying less than half my Verizon bill, and getting more minutes and texts, that's outstanding!
This Motorola 418g has an airtime meter, showing minutes remaining, expiration date, remaining available messages, and remaining minutes of internet. This is important to me, because I don't want to spend more than $30 monthly and this allows me to budget my airtime. On other models, you have to squander airtime calling StraightTalk to get your balance. Unfortunately this phone also has an external volume rocker switch. When working, driving, or sometimes just walking, the volume switch is beeping away, as it gets bumped in my pocket. Without your knowledge, it can turn the volume so low that you cannot hear the ringtone. I've had a lot of calls go straight to voice mail, because the phone has turned down the ring volume. Also, I miss a lot of calls with the poor GSM coverage in my area. I got a USB cord for it on eBay, so I can download ringtones, music, etc. from my computer. The full Motorola 418g manual is available on line. I'm still shopping around for an alternative, as Straight Talk customer service is lousy.
Only problem I have with this phone is the button for texting a blank space and 0 are the star button and the 0 button does the capitols. a little hard to get used to the difference from every other phone that i have had.
This phone has great battery life and would be fine for someone who ONLY makes phone calls. Text messaging is another thing. Receiving picture messages is like pulling teeth, the size limit is somewhere around 300k and it will take you several minutes to download a picture message, if it will download it at all. Most pictures will fail. My husband bought a Samsung Straight Talk phone and he has no problems getting pictures so I think I will be upgrading. The camera is a bit difficult to navigate. It would be nice if it came with a full manual but it doesn't. The quality of the phone itself feels cheap, very lightweight and doesn't feel like it would hold up to much use.
The phone seemed fine BUT it did not work in my area! I checked the site again to see if I made a mistake when I ordered it but after putting in my zip it still said it would work in my area but straight talk said no when I went to activate it :( I drove 50 miles to my nearest walmart and bought one that would work so all turned out ok, just be aware that even if it says it will work in your local it may not!
Can not get rid of the drop down box of letter options when texting! And takes many steps to get anything done. Didn't even use it 24hrs. Got a different phone
I bought this product because it said it would work in my area. When I received the product, it would not let me activate it cause it was not supported in my area. Texting is very difficult on this phone also. Lots of unnecessary steps.
Terrible speaker..can't hear well on phone calls. Difficult phone to use...nothing is easy. I would never buy this phone again. I am replacing it as soon as possible.
I had the Motorola 418 shipped to the Waseca, MN store. It was for my mother, who was leaving in 3 days, to her winter home in the south. When I tried to activate it I was told by Straight Talk that the SIMS card was bad. My options were to have a SIMS card shipped or to return the phone to the store. Since time was an issue we drove 70 miles, one way to Lakeville, MN and exchanged the phone for a new Moto 418. When I tried activate it, I was once again told the SIMS card was bad. I then returned the 2nd phone to the Owatonna, MN store and purchased a LG phone that has worked fine. I think Straight Talk should recall all Moto 418's that are in stores and have the SIMS cards replaced. This was a big pain in my backside and made me think about changing providers for the 5 phones I currently pay for.
