Handcrafted in Cairo, Egypt, this oud embodies what happens when the East meets the West. This model features a Soho Piezo ceramic pickup with a 4-band equalizer with volume control and low battery indicator. The scale length is approximately 600 mm. The finish is a catalyzed polyurethane. The neck and body are pine and the finger board is hard wood. There are 12 geared tuners, however, the maker of this oud only installs 11 strings. It is very popular in Cairo to play with only 11 strings; only one on the bass or 6th course. There are multiple tuning options for instrument, but we recommend using the Arabic method: D2, G2, A2, D3, G3, C4 (low to high). This oud has a range of a little more than 3 octaves. Note: Whether you purchase an instrument on-line or from a physical store locally, it is recommended that you change the strings on your new instrument as soon as you receive it. The strings of an instrument both in a store or shipped to you are exposed to air and different environments prior to you receiving it. During this time the strings WILL oxidize, decreasing it's life expectancy and reducing the quality of it's sound. On occasion instruments may even arrive with a broken string, therefore, it is recommended that you purchase a replacement set of strings and consider changing your strings as soon as it arrives.
