This is the best thing I have ever seen for running. It tracks all your data (Heart rate, distance, time, elevation, calories, speed, etc.). With the newest software update online it allows to upload the data to Google earth. It lines up pretty close to the actual run and gives a nice visual of your route. Wish I had one sooner. You can't beat the Wal-Mart price.
I bought the the Garmin 301 because it has everything I had been looking for. It is easy to read the data from the unit. I own 2 other heart monitors/gps/watches. This by far exceeds the other two and the price was right. I like the information that it gives you and it is easy to find your workout information. I also like how easy it is to download the information to my computer. You can plan your workout ahead of time and then download it to your unit. I have been extremely happy with this and would recommend it to anyone.
Arrived in a timely manner and does exactly what Garmin claims it does. The software is easy to use and will plot your run on the map. One thing I wish were different, you can only assign one user per device, so I can't share it with my wife or kids. It tracks heart rate and determines your lactate threshold. If you share it, the calculated lactate threshold will be inaccurate. I guess I'll have to get one for my wife.
I owned a 201 for 4 year prior and used it all over the world, never a problem except the charging was a pain, the 301 has fixed that and has lots of extra features and the HR monitor works great. This product would be good at twice the price. Super fast shiping also for 97 cents = ) ..
I am new to running and thought that this would be a great tool but thats kind of an understatement. This uploads easy to my laptop, tells me all my stats, how far I run, my heartrate highs and lows. My pace, everything but pick out my clothes. I love it and highly recommend this product.
I have had the Garmin 301 for about 3 weeks now. Been on several runs, bikes, & both and I am thoroughly pleased with the performance of this device. My girlfriend bought the newer model, but I wanted the heart rate monitor and did not want to pay the "full" price for the newer model. I actually like this model better because the screen is wider which allows you to more easily see the data. I love the mutli-sport mode. The heart rate monitor 9.5 times out of 10 stays in communications with the watch providing accurate information. I love the altitude feature although I have not yet used it with software which will display that in a 3D sort of way. I have also yet to see how the "find your way home works". Waiting to use this in the car sometime going somewhere new. Overall I would highly recommend this watch to any health nut, runner, or biker who loves information and loves tracking their physical fitness progress over time.
The 301 Forerunner is the best tool to use as a runner who runs outside. The GPS tool is great because you can run anywhere and it will let you know exactly how far you have run and you can save a map of it. It tracks you running history to compare run times. I like it because it also gives you a running speed so that you can push yourself harder to make your time better. It also gives you an average mile run time. All in all, it is one of the best tools that I have ever had for running outside!
I wanted to try low heart rate training so I looked into heart rate monitors first but came across the Forerunner 301 during my search. With the sale price, it really wasn't that much more expensive than a good heart rate monitor and you get so much more. I love knowing the distance and pace etc. along with the alerts if my heart rate is too fast or slow. The Training Center software is great for tracking progress. I live in a small city with no extremely large buildings so I haven't had trouble with losing GPS signal in general, only a little bit when I ran through a wooded area. The GPS isn't 100% accurate, but it is close enough for my purposes. The unit is a bit big, but I knew that going in and I don't mind it at all. The only issue I've had so far is that the software locked up on me after a run. I couldn't even turn it off so I let the battery run out and then I could use it again. I since googled that issue and found out that it has happened to others as well. There is a way to reset it, but it isn't intuitive. If it wasn't for that, I would have given it 5 stars overall as well.
very cool. I am training for a marathon and my favorite features are the exact distance you have traveled, heart rate, and pace. It is a little wide on your wrist but i knew that ahead of time. It is about two and a half times the width of a watch. I had hoped for a more detailed map. It only shows major roads such as highways in my area. It is a high quality item in every way.
I though that all Forerunner products worked with the optional bicycle cadence sensor. I was wrong, only the 305 models do. I assumed the unite supported multiple user profiles. I doesn't. I don't think any of the Garmin units do. I bought the Forerunner so my wife could use it jogging and I could use it biking. To switch users, you have to modify the single user profile. I ended up returning it. I will get the Edge 305 and my wife decided it's not that important to her to have a GPS trainer, so we won't get one for her.
