I love it , I purchased this item due to the fact I'm always getting lost. When I had a driving trip to Canada it was absolutly perfect the only time it messed up on me was when I was behind an ambulance something about the emergency vehicles will mess with it.

This GPS unit is one of the best I ever bought. It's nice since it actually shows 3-D views of buildings. It also comes with free updates for the maps or voices or buildings, or whatever. You can also talk to someone through your GPS system since it's equipt with Bluetooth which also enables to get free traffic updates. Really the BEST GPS SYSTEM AROUND!!

I really like the product overall. The only downside I can see is that the instructions on how to download music or movies to the Travel Companion. Other than that the product is great. The price I paid for it was great to. I bought it through Wal Mart and I think that's the reason the price was so great. I would highly recommend this product through Wal Mart.

I am very impressed with the accuracy and speed of the unit. I don't know how often they update the maps, but a new street was added to a strip mall in my city and they been there and open over a year and it doesn't show on my gps I did an update the day I rec'd the unit. The sound is great on my unit, they must have improved the units since the earlier reviews here. HP could do a better job on the VERY vague manual. That was my only disappointment.

Before this i had used the TomTom XL One. I got this because i have alot of HP products including the HDX and was in need of a GPS. It has its good and its bad. It boasts a fast processor but i found it didnt calculate any faster from NY to OH than the TomTom and actually takes alot longer to re-calculate during a trip. I have to drive pretty far before it realizes i missed the turn. The screen is beautiful and was spot on during a drive showing all roads names. The sound for the directions is very low as others say even on the highest setting. I have to turn the stereo off to hear it. Its not the speaker though because on mp3 mode its really loud, i can hear it from a room away. Second time i turned it on though the Windows CE it has reared its ugly face as i got a fatal exception error and had to hold the power off button. In one day of playing with it it has frozen a number of times, not sure if its because it goes to a sleep mode. Last the video player on it. It, unlike many handhelds, will play divx movies without transcoding the video BUT it plays choppy. Overall unless they upgrade the software, i wouldnt recommend it to anyone in search of just a gps. Others are cheaper and run smoother. If you want the beautiful high res screen, games, misic and movies, i recommend it. Hopefully they will update it soon.

I have owened this travel companion for about 2 months now. I have had the opportunity to use it for navigation 4 times. The maps that are preloaded are fairly up to date. The guidance voice has desent volume and clarity. The backlighting takes a little playing but once you find a level that fits your personal preference the auto backlight setting works good. I have used the blue tooth to cell phone and added photos. Blue tooth link relatively ease to establish but make shure you have cell phone and travel companion user manuals handy. THe procedure is a little different, not complicated just different. Photo resolution is good. Have not tried to play a video on it yet. FYI the free internal memory is not large so if you are going to add photos You might want to have a media card installed. On the down side, I have yet to get it to sync with outlook. I can add contacts one by one but this is time consuming. And, intially it locked up several times. Sence I downloaded the latest apps update the lockups have stopped. The manuals are vague so be prepaired to put in a little play time to learn the nuiances of the device. All-in-all I am pleased with my purchase, you can find your destination, play games, share photos with your friends and family, and used the calculator in one device. I would recomend it to my friends without hesitation.

Pros: Hardware is very promising. Came with USB Car/Home Charger. Bluetooth compatiblity with Samsung Upstage Graphics may be good for metro but did not show building in sacramento downtown. Rerouting worked fine TTS was OK. Cons Sounds: Needs a better Harmon Kardon / Altec Lansing speaker like in other HP products with little louder voice. Bluetooth device need to be paired everytime I entered the car Unexceptable Con Screen not good for day time driving. I could not see the screen on a sunny day. I was unable to take calls sometimes maybe because the it is not a full duplex sound system.

The good news features are very good and the shape and stall pulse the battery life is good. Bad news it is slower them my Tom Tom one or my Garmin c330 or c550.freez ups, hard to download poi's and the maps are about two years out of date. Got lost do to wrong turns the unit told me to take. This unit need some more work before it can be a factor in the GPS market. I love HP I have a all in one printer and two PCs them witch is why I tried this unit. Go back and redo it if you do I will take a 2ed looked at it.

Not so user friendly

It's nice and fancy but the two problems I had wit it are dat (1) it's not so user-friendly, it's a brain teaser to put in ur destination address; and (2) the suction on the holder does not stick to any surface, my glass, my dash board, nothing, i almost even glued it on. It was annoying!

Lost and Mad about it!

I think the user interface is great. The games are neat, but I would never use them. The screen is clear and looks great. I can't say enough about how great most of this product is. That is until it comes to working for what it is meant to do, GPS! I have read where other people said it locked-up, but I had no issues with that. On a good day, I would get into my truck and program where I want to go. Then, the stupid thing would say those dreaded words, “GPS signal lost!” I can't begin to describe to you how mad you will become when you have know idea where you are and it doesn't find a signal on a sunny clear day. Today the thing did not find a signal for over 6 hours! Now I tried everything. Pressed reset, stood on top of my truck, turned it off for a bit, etc… In the end, I had to call someone and try to figure out where I was and how to get where I was going via a phone call to a friend. Maybe the one I got was just a bad one or maybe they all have poor signal strength, but consider yourself warned! Oddly, I really like this GPS and hate the fact that I must take it back; moreover, I would recommend it with 5 stars if it only worked. I am going to try the "Garmin nuvi 660 GPS w/ Bluetooth and Bonus Fodor's Travel Guide (a $69 value)" for $348.88 from Wal-mart.
