This is a very practical gate, very economical ! I loved the fact they have an online video for the installation! It is very sturdy, and no matter how hard my toddler shakes it, it stays in place, one could think it is a hardware installed gate for how strong it stands and the heavy duty design, it's hard to believe it is a pressure mounted gate. We have two of these, one in the kitchenn and one in our master bedroom. We used the included extension for the one in the kitchen, and it fitted perfect for our bedroom. It is also taller then most gates which makes it almost impossible to climb over it.
I was looking for a cheap way to contain our new puppy who now weighs 50 lbs. He loves to chew on wood, so we needed a metal version of a good gate that would also hold his weight. This product was not only good for those things but it is also cheap. We highly recommend this item to anyone looking to contain their pet or baby.
Finally I found a gate that keeps my two kids out of the kitchen as well as the dogs. I was really unhappy with the set up when I first got it, the directions aren't good at all, but after some searching on the internet on how to set up that specific model I found out how to do it and felt like a total idiot. Once I saw how to do it it took about 5 minutes, and that was with two kids trying to knock it down at the same time. My only complaint about the actual product is that it opens with one hand if you happen to get the right grip on it. My husband has no problem with the one hand open, but I usually have to use two, once in a while I'll grip it right and can use one. Other than that it's great and I would recommend this to anyone needing an affordable gate.
I run an in home child care, after the kids had broken four of the $10 wood pressure gates I finally broke down and purchased this one. I'm so glad I did! It is easy to use, you can open it with one hand. It was quick to install, and is very sturdy. With the extention attached it fits perfectly in my hallway, keeping the kids on one side and the puppies on another. I would reccomend this gate to anyone with small children, or pets!
I purchased this gate when my son turned one. It was put up in the hallway to avoid having him get into the bathroom. After reading the instructions, the gate was easily set up in a matter of a couple minutes. At first I could not get the gate to close just by swinging it I keep having to use the handle. I did some adjusting on the top side knob, worked perfectly after that. My husband and I were able to use the gate handle one-handed. There were plenty of times when I had my sleeping son in one arm and being able to use the gate with the other. The gate was super sturdy in our doorway. My 4 year old would pull and shake on it without it moving out of place. Our 2 medium/large size dogs would lean and bump on it without it moving. We stopped using the gate when my son was 2 and I gave it to a co-worker to use for when her daughter started walking. The only complaint I have is that we originally bought this gate for a different doorway. Even with the extra panel it was to small to fit. This is the gate I want to get again if we need to keep a space off limits.
This gate is nice, did not fit door frame that I orignially purchased it for. Gate was too small without the extensions, but too big with the extensions. Door way has to be up to 33" or over 35", any doorway that is inbetween will not fit properly. My door is 34.5", so measure before you buy.
We've been very pleased with this gate. It works well and is easy enough to open and close. We have neutral brown colors in our paint, carpet, and woodwork, and this blends so well at the bottom of our stairs we hardly know it's there. It did take a while to figure out exactly how to adjust the knobs, and one of the screws was stuck at first but once we got that worked out it was easy to set up and adjust.
I got this gate almost EXACTLY a year from now in Aug. of '07. The gate was semi easy to set up, but only if you know what you're doing or you read the instructions. It is a BEAUTIFUL gate! I know, when you think of a cold metal gate you'd think the word "beautiful" wouldnt come to mind, but the color and the shape is very nice! I've gotten SO many compliments on it and people thinking that i've spent WELL over $40 on it. Also, the main reason why i'm writing this review, is to let people know just how WONDERFUL this company is. I've gotten so many products from them, and anytime something goes wrong, something's missing, or something breaks...they send me either a free replacement part or even a free replacement of the actual PRODUCT!! They are in the process of sending me a whole new gate because this gate has already broken on me after only having for a year. But i have NO complaints if they're sending me a FREE gate! They definitly stand behind their products... :)
It's an ok gate for the price but it was not very sturdy at all. I got it to use on the stairs, and though it says it's ok for the bottom of the stairs, it was very shaky. And the rails on my stairs got loosened because of the amount of pressure it was putting on them. Perhaps if you have a wall side it would be better. I returned it the next day.
I am not happy with this gate because I paid around $35 for it and I get just as good of use out of the plastic one that I paid $15 for. Grant it, this one does have a swinging walk-through gate but I would rather save $20 and have to step over one. When this gate is not assembled, it will not lock and it makes it a pain to store or carry because the gate won't latch and flops everywhere. Another big issue I have is the fact that I cannot purchase additional extentions for this gate. I called Evenflo and they do not make them available, yet the gate comes with one extention so it's not like they don't make them. Most of the other brands make additional extentions available for wide doorways. Hopefully the store will let me return this because Evenflo offered no help whatsoever saying to return it to the store and there's nothing they could do; if/when I return it, the manufacturer will likely end up with it anyway since I don't have a box for it.
