This the the ultimate bike computer and training buddy. It allows you to customize the display so you can see up to 8 fields at one time. It also allows you to set what the fields are, so if cadence is more important than your time or speed you can put that at the top. Easy to install on bike and then you are off and riding. Post ride, plug it back into your computer (via included cable) and upload the data. It allows you to view workout totals (time, distance, calories, HR..) and then it maps your route. If you have a normal loop you ride, this will allow you to compare this ride to another previous ride and watch your improvement. There are times (especially when it's really cloudy out) that the GPS has issues detecting/tracking the device but usually works great.
The product took a little longer than I expected to get set up on the bike. However, it is every bit as good as advertised. The software could be a bit more user friendly. But, overall, for the price, this is an outstanding product and a must have for serious riders.
This is a replacement for a 305 I wore out through hard riding over multiple years. This unit does a great job of capturing all your ride data, and allowing you to compare rides and chart performance gains. Computer software and docking are really intuitive and give a clear snapshot of your rides. Only shortfall - the screen is a bit delicate - so don't bury it in a crash and consider a small case for transport to protect it.
I puchased the Edge 305 with the cadence and heart rate monitor with skepticism. Having tried several heart rate monitors over the years, the only brand I have been satisfied with is Polar. This is the first heart rate monitor I have used that compares with Polar and does what appears to do as good a job. The information you can monitor during your ride, study and save after your ride, and the ability to compare prior rides to your current ride can be overwhelming. I am still tweaking the information that shows on the screens while in use to give me the info I want on the ride. The only complaints or concerns I would have about the unit are the fact that the battery is built into the unit, can't just plug a AAA or watch battery in when the battery fails. That being said, however, I've done several centuries with no issue. The other is that there are so many options available to choose from when using this device, it can be difficult to choose which you want. Overall, I feel this device is a fantastic value and well built. The connection to a PC is straight forward and the software installs fairly simply. I did have an issue with the unit connecting with my PC's, but the product support was excellent, pointing me to the updates available and needed to get the unit functioning properly. I heartily recommend this to all my biking buddies and once they see it, they love it and buy one!
The Garmin Edge 305 is a wonderful addition to anyone's exercise routine. I personally only mountain bike, but it can be used for hiking, jogging, dirt biking, road biking, etc. It tracks a lot of information that will help you understand the trail or track that you have gone on, your fitness level during the activity, and much more. When I first considered the product I didn't really want the heart rate monitor, but that has been one of the best parts of this product. I am now able to understand my fitness level and what I need to do to improve it. I purchased the cadence, but haven't used it yet, so I am unable to provide feedback on it. For those considering the Edge 205, just save up and get the 305; you get so much more for your money, in particular the measurement of your total ascent and descent.
As an avid cyclist this product is a MUST HAVE! Large display, easy setup, killer accuracy. Beats the cateye I replaced!! Had one with issues, Garmin backed it, and replaced it no questions!
The Edge 305 is a must have. The data is very useful for improving ones cycling. Walmart sells it cheaper than anyone.
i like it! however, i did at first mistakenly order a garmin 305 forerunner, not knowing that the 305 has two incarnations. would like a better map. the battery life is good, though my longest ride with it so far is only 2.5 hours. it likes to have a clear shot to the satellites, so it lags a bit when i am on a route with a lot of trees. the training software seems good, though i am still learning how to use many of its functions.
I found the Edge 305 to be very useful on the MS150 recently from Houston to Austin. The only challenge I have with the product is its complexity to set up and use training activities. Great information, heart rate, cadence etc. Good software allowing graphing of any 4 data fields relationally. I'm still a rookie, but am confident this product will do anything I need to assist in improving my personal training and conditioning.
Garmin 305 is a feature rich product that suffers from power problems. The Garmin 305 is prone to power off at the most inopportune times. This probably occurs because of all the circuitry required for the features. If Garmin can get this product working without the power issues, it would be a phenomenal product. Other users complain that the software that accompanies it should also include the full *Subscription Paid* version of the Training Center. Bottom Line: Products that work all the time smoke products that work sometimes that have more features.
