Very good fruitcake. It's moist and tasty, and a great value for the money.
I wasn't expecting much for the price and I was so wrong, from the first hand feel of moistness to unwrapping the end and having a slice I was amazed at the premium quality feel and taste of this product. I've spent $$$$ on many food items from ALL the gourmet specialty stores across the country and this would hold up to the best of them at a price you couldn't possibly replicate at home. I'm only sorry that I didn't discover this before the holidays! It would be a welcome addition to any holiday tray.
This fruitcake is made by Bensons from Bogart Ga and is the best. It not only looks like their labeled version, but I called the factory and they confirmed it. I have enjoyed their product for over 50 years. I keep an opened package in the refrigerator in a zip locked bag and it actually gets more moist than when first opened and keeps for many months. Since it's seasonal and hard to find, I buy a years supply and keep the rest in the freezer. I suspect it will maintain quality frozen for over a year. Once set out to defrost, it's just like it was fresh from the store. First picture shows old Benson's box I keep the refrigerated ziplock bag in to keep it fresh. If you like fruitcake, this is it.
The first time I saw this fruitcake bar in the store, I was extremely suspicious that it could be any good at all-considering the remarkably poor quality of all of Walmart's baked goods. And I DO MEAN remarkably poor. When I first tried this fruitcake bar, I was surprised at how delicious it is. I absolutely love this fruitcake. Really. I had been buying ridiculously expensive fruitcake from a "gourmet baker" renowned in Texas for eons!! They crowed about all of the celebrities who purchase their cakes and pies. I stopped buying them when they began tasting like cardboard and will never go back. This fruitcake bar is excellent. You can taste all of the ingredients. I buy up everything leftover after Xmas. Originally, this product was ridiculously overpriced-which it still is at Martin's supermarkets out of California. They sold all the little bit they carry for that high price. I refused to buy any from them. I eat very simply and focus on tasting every bit of food I put in my mouth. I make a point of only eating what I can taste in its completeness. I love and enjoy eating every morsel of this fruitcake. The price is still too high and needs adjusting downwards. But, if you want one fruitcake for the season, I'd pick this one. You do have to like fruitcake, though. If you really don't like it, just take it back. Walmart is very good about returns. What have you got to lose?
Kinda dry, but tasted ok for the price.
I have bought the Claxton fruit cake and was trying to buy again but they stopped selling it and only offered the Walmart brand. so I went ahead and tried it. .It is the WORSE fruit cake I've ever had. it was dry, tasteless, NO FRUIT!! A FRUIT CAKE WITHOUT FRUIT! COME ON! VERY DISAPPOINTED! DON'T WASTE YOUR $4.00. IT IS SHOCKINGLY B A D ! DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. PLEASE, BRING BACK THE CLAXTON FRUIT CAKES. THEY ARE REALLY GOOD AND THE PRICE IS GREAT. SOMETHING IS GOING ON WITH WALMART AND IT IS NOT GOOD!! I GUESS ALL GOOD THINGS NEVER LAST...
I purchased this at a Tampa Walmart bakery a couple days ago. The price was right, so I figured it doesn't hurt to try. I usually love all brands of fruit cake, and really am not very picky. But this is the first fruit cake which I've encountered which is not edible ! Seriously, the cake tastes like STYRENE PLASTIC ! That is really a shame, because I can taste some of the fruit around it, which is okay. Unfortunately, I will have to do something I've never done before: take this food product back for a refund.
This was the worst fruit cake I have ever tasted. It was so dry and tasteless, I threw it in the garbage after attempting to eat one slice. I have always purchased Claxton fruit cakes at my Wal-Mart.... What's the story this year? Don't waste your money!
Dry, cakey, taste is off. Actually,, has little taste at all.. Will never buy this product again.
Worst fruitcake I've ever eaten! there was almost no fruit and only moderate nuts; more cake than anything. And, the cake wasn't even that good! I'll NEVER buy it again!
