This is awesome telescope for a first time buyer and allows you to play around till till you become well versed in exploring the universe. My Son loves it !!!!
This telescope is value priced at $40.00. I have added a few accessories to round out the package a 1.25" 3 x barlow lens, a meade economy 45 degree 1.25" erect image diagonal for viewing objects on land. I also purchased a 1.25" Green moon filter for it. I also use the google sky map app to locate stars and plants on my android phone.
I purchased one for our senior attorney's office. Partly as an interesting office accessory and conversation piece, and also for actual use. Little did I know a telescope is not like binoculars! :-) When you look through it say for instance at the street or lake with boats, everything you look at is reverted. It is so odd, but makes sense when you think about it. So we had to order a special lens that flips what you are looking at to the proper dimensions. It looks great but doesn't give you the ability to see far distances. But for a starter telescope I would highly recommend it.
I bought this item for my daughters birthday. She seems to like it and says that it's easy to use. I believe it's a good value for the money. Seems good for first time users.
This is my 3rd telescope. My 2nd reflector. Most astronomy sites suggest starting off with a 70mm telescope and, I understand why. The sale price convinced me to get this 60mm for my 9 year old son. You can't beat it for the price as a STARTER scope. Great quality construction and nice clear optics. But (no fault of it's own) It just isn't powerful enough to resolve planets to a good size. My son complains that the image is tiny. He's right. The eye pieces are really large and comfortable and show a larger amount of space around your target as advertised but this is better for land viewing. It wouldn't be an issue if they included more than 2 eye pieces or a barlow lens. I just don't want someone else buying it with expectations greater than a starter scope.
I bought this telescope back in Aug. for my sons best friends birthday. Whenever they get together they bring it out and look up at the sky. They have tons of fun with it! So in Oct. I saw it was on line again after it was out of stock for awhile. I decided to get my son his own for Christmas. When I ordered it in Aug. It was shipped in a box with extra padding in it and then in the product box. The one I got in Oct. came in just the product box and a sticker on the outside with my address. I was glad my son was in school when it came otherwise he would have seen it and know what it was. That is the only complaint I really have is the shipping. So if you order it for a gift be prepared to have it shipped for all to see.
The telescope works as described, but doesnt seem to be as clear and easy to focus as I had assumed it would be. Decent value for the money though.
I haven't gotten a chance to really use it yet because the nights have been overcast. The clouds get in the ways of seeing the moon or stars or anything. While putting it together and balancing the sights, i was able to see birds and trees from far away very clearly. It seems to be a nice telescope, i just need a non cloudy day when i'm not working to really try it out.
This telescope is the first one I've ever owned myself. For a beginner's telescope it is perfect. It is simple to set up and use. The only thing I could have thought of to make it better would have been a moon filter, but that's another story. If you are searching for a telescope for a friend perhaps their first. I suggest you consider this one.
Santa Claus brought this to our 8 year old son who is extremely interested in the solar system. Once assembled, we went out to view an almost full moon and couldn't even find the moon in the telescope! (I have had a quality telescope before and do know how to use one.) The telescope did come with an instructional DVD that, once installed in my DVD player, does not work. We are going to give the telescope on more try before returning. My advice, do not buy this telescope!
