This is the second gate that we have purchased for the top of our stairs. The first gate was wooden and we did have it screwed to the wall. The latch was never totally secure and it was fairly easy for a little one to get open. It finally broke beyond repair and we needed a new gate. After reading reviews, I decided to go with this gate as it was metal and people had mentioned that the latch was secure. Our opening is 42.5 iches so pretty much every gate available on the market is not wide enough. To fix that problem I bought a couple of oval rosettes (that you can use to put a railing up) and stained them the color of our woodwork. We then glued them to the wall and attached the gate to them so that it would fit the opening. It did take a couple of attempts due to the fact that the post and the wall are at a slight angle from each other and my husband wanted everything to be centered and look perfect. But despite that, it still looks very nice and is a very secure gate. This gate is able to be opened by my 2 and 4 year old boys but I think it is a much better gate than our last one.
This is absolutely the best gate out there!..looks great, works great..beautifully designed!!!
I had one of those plastic gates that you can just place at the top of the stairs. After about a month of sliding it over so we could go through, it wore through the paint and sheet rock. So I researched a mounted swinging gate and found this one. We are very happy. It is very sturdy and not tough to install. I read a few posts stating it was hard to open the latch but that is not the case. It is very easy to open with one hand. I recommend this gate to anyone looking for a sturdy, easy to use gate.
I got two of these gates one for my one year old grandson and one for our place. Very pleased on how well it's made . Easy to put up and very sturdy . We like them so well were going to buy two more.well worth the money ...
I looked at every gate on all websites, I came back to this one, because there is no bottom bar to trip over. We have an open stair way to downstairs where I need to go to do laundry everyday and was concerned about tripping and falling with laundry baskets. This is nice and heavy, makes me feel so secure, attached to the wall studs perfect, and i can carry a laundry basket up and down and open the gate with one hand. Its a a great sturdy metal, and the whole door opens for more room to move thru. I am so glad I went with this one, as we will have it in place for years. It took my husband 5 mins. to install it. And I didnt hate the color like I thought I would, It blends nice with beige.
This gate works great for our two pets. Metal gate that can handle the abuse of two growing puppies.
We needed a gate at the top of our stairs that was more secure than the tension mounted gate that we already installed. The gate sits between two banisters/posts at the top that did not work too well with the tension mount; the tension mount would become loose as it pushed the banisters out over time. Tension mounts also have a bar across the floor that would trip up our little one going up or down. This is a great gate for many reasons...It is very secure since it comes with a "block" that can be placed on the gate to keep it from swinging in both directions. The width extension is great. It is very easy to adjust to fit the stairwell perfectly and tightens well. We actually mounted wood strips (stained to match) on the inside of the banisters so we could attach the brackets without damaging the banisters/posts. The lock/handle was easy to figure out & use but too complicated for little ones. The color is nice as well.
We got this for our open stairwell to the basement. I am pleased with the look, and quality so far. Complaints: -I thought the door swung closed on it's own, but you actually have to shut it by hand. -The gate makes a really loud click when closing, so we don't close it when the baby is sleeping since noises like that would wake him up. -It is a little tricky to open with one hand. I can open it one handed with my right hand, but not my left hand. -We had to put a piece of wood on the wall to mount it to, since there wasn't a stud. -It took us around an hour and a half to install. We installed it 4" up from the floor, so our cat can sneak underneath, since they don't seem to make hardware mounted baby gates (top of stair) with a pet door.
We purchased this for our grandson to be used at the top of a long flight of stairs. The overall build is solid and seems to be good quality. We have extensive baseboard molding and I knew before purchasing that I would not have a level vertical surface. I had some extra wood flooring left from initial installation and used that on both sides for mounting. Without the extra wood there is no way it would have worked, so it's easier if your mounting surface is flat and even on both sides. The only reason I'm not giving this a 5 star is that I feel the design of this should include vertical adjustments if you don't have a perfectly flat wall. Installation was easy after I had installed my wood pieces except the way you have to adjust the width of the door opening is cumbersome. We are pleased with this product and seems like something that should last for years.
I like how sturdy this gate is. My 9 month old loves to pull herself up on it and rattle it back in forth. We do use it for the top of the stairs. The only down side I saw is due to our floor molding we had to buy wood spacers to screw into the studs. Otherwise we would have had to mount the gate too high for it to still be safe. PLEASE CHECK THIS!! The manufacturer specifies that the bottom portion of the gate should not be higher than 3 inches. We tried it without the spacers and it ended up being 4 inches off the ground. We weren't sure if the additional inch would make a difference until we held our daughter next to the gap and realized she could fit under it. After the modification of adding the spacers, it works great!
