I have used many of gallons of the ColorPlace Interior Semi-Gloss Paint. And in a wide spectrum of colors. Due to being retired early and disability. Fixed income and spending are critical issues, as many folks know. As of this review, I've done a wide scale of remodeling, painting, etc. for two years now. My home is approximately 1700 sq. feet. But, I've got into freshening the place up since it's construction in 1992. Painting has been, and still is about 60% of the work involved. Early on when deciding on colors, and color combinations (I do a lot of walls with chair rails or borders). So, in many of cases, I need multiple colors just for one room. This kind of painting can get pricey. In the beginning, I used a fair amount of Valspar (and some Glidden) brand paints. These paints performed valiantly. However, when "price to affordability" became an issue. I ended up seeking out ColorPlace paint. And to date, have also performed outstandingly. However, at around 1/2 of the price. In my stock of leftover paint, more than 70% is ColorPlace. I've had "zero" amount of problems. In my opinion, application quantity is equal to, and in a few cases exceeded my expectations....A few notes of importance, for those who have reported low quality, bubbling, chipping etc. Keep in mind there just a few thing to prevent that from happening. Firstly, make certain the surface you paint is conducive to the paint type itself. Walls must be clean of dirt, dust, oily or glassy residue is cleaned off the surface of the old paint. Secondly, and I mention this in all my reviews ->->->MIXING is priority # 1, before doing 1 brush stroke. All paint retailers will give you the traditional paint sticks for mixing. Do yourself a great favor (and fair judgment) by picking up the paint mixer tool that is used in a drill. For some reason, I never see the mixers for the large buckets (5 gallons), just for the gallon and quart side cans. Not to worry, DIY retailers carry the long ones. This will make your painting experience more pleasant. Is easy on the body and less time consuming. However, it'll will blend the paint thoroughly. The usual cause of chipping, bubbling, and premature fading is due to poor paint mixing. And this is imperative in all paint brands. Not, just a budget oriented priced paint. Good Luck to All....and remember MIX, MIX, MIX your paint throughly.
The paint works well and can be mixed to a variety of color options; however, the 2 stores closest to me are always out of it no matter how much I complain and you can't order it online or ship to store. Wal-Mart would sell more if they actually stocked items.
We have used Color Place paint on several projects over the past several years. First was my daughters nursary 7 years ago. My husband is a bit of a paint snob, but I didnt want to spend a lot because as she grew up we would probably re decorate and re paint so we tried Color Place from Walmart. We were pleasantly surprised and loved the results (pictured below). Since then we have used Color Place on an entire house we rented out for my inlaws and it wore great for the several years they rented out the property. Most recently we used it again to paint our daughters room in our new home (also pictured below) and again very happy with the results. We are preparing to move forward with painting the entire new house using Color Place paints. It works well, just soak your roller well, and re load before it starts getting patchy (this is necessary with any brand of paint to achieve good even coverage) and use a good quality roller, it makes such a difference!
I would tell my friend to expect to paint more than once. The paint is fine. My only problem with it is that it took three coats to really look like it was finished. I prefer to only have to paint the walls once. Still, it was okay. Just too much extra work.
Transparent! Takes more than 2 coats which means more hard work on your part. Worst paint I've ever bought. It's watery and splatters and drips off brush and roller. If you buy this look forward to double the effort, time, and money because you'll need more paint. You'll be spending more money to finish the job
I must admit that I worked in a hardware department about 20 years ago and became spoiled with seeing good quality paint. A good paint has a thick viscosity for one coat coverage. A thick paint also won't show brush marks. This paint is NOT a quality paint. When I first opened the can I notice that the paint was not very thick, but I thought that maybe the paint would be okay, but it was not. The thin viscosity made the brush stokes show and it did not cover over the similar white I was going over. I used 10 coats of paint on a window sill and you still can see the other color coming through. It is also not washable or scrubbable because the paint comes off when you wipe it down. do not recommend this paint.
I needed to paint the ceiling in my bathroom. After shelling out $50 for the gallon of name brand paint I decided to cheap out and buy this for the ceiling. Figured cheap should be fine on the ceiling. Please keep in mind I'm no amateur. The guys at the name brand paint store know me by name I'm there so much. I just thought no way could this paint be bad enough that you could tell 8 feet up. I bought a gallon of white (I think the color I picked was called Table Linens). I was covering cream. Yes, very knit picky but my ceiling have to be white. After 3 coats I need at least 1 if not 2 more. Considering I'm covering cream that is totally preposterous!! Any decent paint should cover a cream color in one, maybe two coats. This could have been done hours ago had I just bought different paint. Attached are my results after 3 coats. Awful!! I've never worked with paint this transparent. Even the home improvement stores' paint has never been this awful!
poor coverage. I purchased flat color place grey metal to paint inside of cabinets. i was hoping to get away with one coat. However the way things are looking after first coat I bet I'm going to have to do 3 or 4 coats.
I own my own painting business. Twenty years exp. customer said they would provide the paint to do their job. I knew I was in trouble when I saw the colorplace cans they provided. ceiling flat white over existing white. required 2 coats plus touch ups. wall color should have cover existing color with 2 coats, took 3. white semi gloss for doors/trim. same, took 3. I was also concerned that warnings said to use a niosh respirator when using this product. can does not even list the ingredients. Raw materials for the manufacture of paint are vey expensive, might be why a gal is so cheap. high voc's and cheap raw materials? Look at higher quality paint can labels. their raw materials are listed. reserch before you buy please!
I have applied 4 coats of this paint, it finally looks okay. What would usually take less than one gallon of better paint will probably take 1.5-2 gallons. I won't waste my time or money on Walmart brand paint again!
