It actually helps eliminate the order of the pampers making the air stay clean and fresh
I had a different diaper pail with my first child that just pinched off the top of the bag, didn't really seal in any odors which was fine until he was about 6 months old, so I knew I needed a better one. I have been pleased with this one. It does an excellent job of keeping odors sealed - of course you can smell them when you change the bag - diapers stink! Some people seem to expect this to be magic or something, but for what it is supposed to do - it works great. I never have a dirty diaper smell in my house though my baby is only 3.5 months old - her diapers will get stinkier. I'll probably just have to empty it every 5 days instead of 8 or 9. It is loud, but my kids sleep through anything, baby has startled to the noise but never woken up. The noise is not as bad and diapers seem to not get stuck if you close it a little slowly. I read reviews before I bought, so prepared for noise and not as bad as expected - definitely not as loud as a jet engine like one review said - seriously people, its a diaper pail.
I bought this over 3 years ago when we were expecting out 2nd child. The fan and filter feature seemed great to me but to tell you the truth, I replaced the filter maybe twice and once the batteries died I never replaced them. I guess I just didn't notice that they needed changing because it still doesn't smell, even without those things. The way the bag stays closed keeps the smell in with or without the fan and filter. The only time you smell the diapers is when it's really full, the clamp opens a bit when you open the lid, then you know it's past time to change the bag. But other than that, you only smell the diapers when you take out the bag, which is understandable. Other reviews have complained about the lid being loud when you open and close it. I can see that, but in the last three years, it has never bothered me or my babies. It's just not a big deal. And it's also very convenient to use, just lift the lid and drop the diaper in. When you close the lid, the diaper is pushed in. Oh, the only thing that I don't like is the piece of plastic that is on the lid to push down the diaper, sometimes would fall off, which is a little bit annoying, but you just put it back on, which is not hard to do. I would highly reccomend this pail to anyone. You don't have to buy pricey refills and (like in my case) if you don't want to replace the batteries or filter, you don't have to right away and it still controls the odor. I would buy this all over again. It's been a great diaper pail for our family.
I loved that this diaper pail uses regular bags--no expensive cartridges sold in specialty stores! Especially after my sister-in-law, who has a Genie, said that their bags don't even fill halfway before reaching full capacity in the pail, so they take their bag out and set it on the ground until it's full, just to get their money's worth. Bags in this pail fill completely! No running to the trash with half full bags. The odor elimination is nothing short of miraculous. I NEVER smell it and we're in a toasty, top floor, one-bedroom apartment in Houston in the dead of summer. I was worried the fan might be noisy, but it's completely silent. You can only tell it's running by the light, which usually blinks, staying steady. And I LOVE the diaper drop mechanism. To all the nay-sayers: 1. It's recommended to change the filter and batteries ever 90 days. I hardly call that a burden or an inconvenience for such excellent results. 2. The lid won't close if the diaper isn't centered. It's not that hard to do and once you find the sweet spot, placing the diaper properly is second nature within 2 diaper changes. Also, the directions say to tightly bundle the diaper before disposal. I stick all the wipes in the diaper and wrap the tabs around the diaper real snug. Keeps things neat and compact and clean. If you don't, the diaper will just stick to the bag. But even in a normal trash can, not bundling your diaper is just plain gross, so, again, hardly a burden. Just make sure you close the lid completely or the fan won't work. If the light's blinking, you're good to go.
This was a good buy for the price. It is definitely the best diaper pail I have tried after 2 babies. And NO ODORS...at all. The only problem is like another reviewer said THAT LID. It is loud when you close it. And FYI it works with kitchen bags but I was using the ones with a drawstring at first...Don't do that. It turns off the odor destroying mech b/c the thing "thinks" the lid is not closed. Buy cheapie kitche bags for this thing.
I like this pal because you don't have to buy the expensive refills to go with it. Regular kitchen trash bags work just fine, and it really does keep the odor sealed in the pal. The only problem I have with it is this very loud noise it makes when you close the lid. And there really is no way to stop the noise, which isn't good if your baby is sleeping. Other then the noise it's a great product.
I don't know if there is anything to keep the smell away when it comes to dirty diapers. This pail works good but at soon as you open the lid out comes the horrible smell. I have twins so we are changing it out daily and it still gets pretty rank. Our filter systerm never did work so I don't know if that would have made a big difference or not. I purchased some Activated Carbon (fish tank supplies) and poured some of that in the bottom so we will see if that helps. Hunters use this to take smells away when they hunt so we will see if it stands up to the smell of dirty diapers! The lid is loud when you close it so if you have one baby it should be find as he will be awake when you are using it but with twins sometimes I'm changing one and the other is asleep in the crib so it wakes the other one up.
I loved this diaper pail when I bought it. It does have a noisy lid, but worked great. Although, it only worked for 6 months. The motor quit working. It was not the batteries, the unit just died! The customer service people could not do anything for me because it was beyond 30 days. I tried to continue to use it without the fan, but the smell just doesn't stay contained. I think most people buy a diaper pail to last at least two years. This one can not hold up to the test of time.
I bought this as a baby shower gift because of it using regular sized plastic bags rather that special ones from the manufacturer & because it had a fan. The recipient returned the gift telling me that it was hard to setup & the springs made too loud of a sound when the jaws/blades snapped shut. The clincher for them was the cost of replacement charcoal filters from the manufacturer that were to be changed monthly & the 4 A-size batteries.
worked great for 1 week then my 2 year old knocked it over the fan never worked again.will be returning it.requires 4 d batters not a very good idea would have rather it plugged in
