Since starting college I have gone through Windows 2000, XP, a Vista and now this is my first Windows 7 computer. I'm not usually one to care about my brands (ie Dell, Acer, Toshiba, etc) but after my third Dell broke, I looked toward Acer, who, after extensive searching on the internet, were credited well and given high marks. I wanted something that would a.) be worth my hard earned money and b.) work well for all the things I put it through (I am very video/ audio oriented) and c.) not break easily from using it extensively every day. I was looking for a large hard drive (Something 400GB or higher) and a fairly decent processor (again, not a stickler for Intel or AMD, but something that WORKED well). This brand new Acer Aspire fit the bill! I went looking for other reviews, but the product is so new, you can only find it at Acer's warehouse store! At a little over $400 counting taxes and such, I picked up this 15.6in, textured gray/blue beauty at my local Walmart store a few days ago and I haven't regretted it. It runs like a dream! Boot up at most takes 2 minutes, shut down, 30 seconds. It's very lightweight, sleek, and bright power lights are very small and in the front, covered by my hand, so they are not a distraction. The only issues I am having are the simple adjustments to Windows 7 and getting my preferred settings in order. One other issue (and it might be that I just haven't configured it right) is my audio isn't the greatest. I hear it straining when I play music. But it is a serious minor complaint. All in all, worth the money! I anticipate quite a few good years with this product.
-keyboard has a good feel -easily dim to save power via fn+arrows -speakers are not good, not for music -setup is easy -internet is very fast! -windows 7 is awesome -battery legnth is good -easily runs large programs - rosetta stone, sticky notes, chrome - at the same time
I purchased this computer from Walmart a month ago. I replaced a three year old HP laptop that had gone out.....my computer expert told me it was the motherboard. I love my new Acer! It is super fast, the mate finish is great. My previous HP was shiny and every time I picked it up I left fingerprints all over it. I also love the Windows 7 operating system....Vista on my HP was awful! I use this computer for web surfing, downloading music and my business and it meets all of my needs. I love the keyboard and love the fact that the numbers are moved to the right and by themselves. I feel got a lot of bang for my buck. I would highly recommend purchasing this computer!!
My daughter is in college and now owns this laptop, and is in love with it! It holds all her music that she puts on her mp3 player (32gb) AND it's able to handle classwork assignments and term papers, has fast internet connections with the wifi (handy at the library), bright clear display, she can watch movies in the dorm, and best of all, she can use her webcam and I can see that she is all right! It's lightweight, and since this year at the college they offer books online, it helps with the load in her backpack (4 less books to carry to class). Great value (Walmart has the best pricing on laptops), good sturdy laptop, I really like the Acer brand a lot!
This is my first "new" laptop - I've been begging my hubby for over a year. We are a big family and on a tight budget - I searched all the tech discount sites for a laptop under $500. I just happen to be in Walmart and saw this one and I love it! I still can't get over how much I paid for it. It's not the cheapo laptop with no memory and hard drive room, it's also not the super pricey laptop with more than I need, it's perfect for your run of the mill stay at home mom that posts pics on Facebook, pays bills, downloads music for the kid's Ipods, surfs the internet, etc.
I did a lot of shopping around for a new laptop this Acer 4851 gave me the most for my money. I am typing this review on it right now. Set up was quick and easy except it did give me grief finding my wireless but I blame my wireless modem for most of the problems. I always owned the Acer brand in the past and they have proven very reliable and trouble free. I have always used a desktop and this is my first laptop, the only bad thing I can say about it that it doesn't have a HDMI hook up to watch movies on my HD TV.
The Acer was easy to get up and running for us. We have had computers now for over 10 years. We use them for news, playing games, shopping and banking. This computer is working great for all of our needs. We have a small business and use the computer for printing and promoting our product. I did delete a lot of the stock items that came with the computer, because I like to chose my own news and virus programs. But that is a minor thing to do. Oline23
For the price, this laptop is terrific! I only wish it didn't come pre-loaded with so much. . . stuff. But, that's just my personal preference. I'm also not so thrilled about Windows 7, but it's probably just because I'm not used to it. The keyboard, along with the full number keypad is really nice. Transitioning between Wi-Fi networks is a cinch, the processing speed is amazing, and the screen resolution is pretty stunning! All in all, I'd consider this a great buy!
The computer came quickly as promised. I was very concerned about the computer when it arrived. Walmart had done an extremely poor job packaging an expensive computer. The box was twice the size of the computer with one piece of paper in the box. The computer was sliding around in the box being banged around. Thank goodness it works so far.
I bought my Acer through site to store. That experience went well. Got it home and a few days later noticed one of the usb ports didn't work. Acer customer service was top notch walking me through trouble shooting. Walmart has a 15 day policy, I took it in to exchange it for one that worked. I waited 25 min. for them to do what they do finally a new Acer was brought to the front where I was at. Nice customer service people though. All and all I like it. The sound quality is bad but for speed and easy to use it's awesome. I also love the 10 key touch that was added to the keyboard makes it much easier to use.
