This Die is great! Yes it takes some time to clean, but it is so worth it. A couple of things have helped me - I use a hemostat to pull threads out of blades instead of tweezers. And I do a preliminary cleaning after three or four cuts. Then a thorough cleaning when I'm finished cutting. Have made some really cute diaper changing pads for gifts.

I use the 3.5 inch square size quite often in my quilting. This die makes it a snap to cut a lot of this size all at once! I also use it to cut out fabrics from my discontinued fabric sample books, I'm an interior decorator! I keep the cottons and pitch the rest!

Rag quilt 5 1/4”

What a fun product! Makes rag quilts a snap for a beginner! You can do a 100 square flannel quilt (10x10 blocks) in an afternoon and then read a novel or text while the quilt is getting washed in the laundromat- do it twice with tiny bit of washing detergent and dry it thoroughly- clean trap a few times! Great gift for babies and toddlers. The Husband touched it and said wistfully : “babies get the best, softest blankets don’t they” I feel that a Christmas rag quilt in those muted fall flannels is in my (and his) future...

No better way to cut Hexies

I love this die so much! I don't think I will ever cut a hexagon any other way. I simply cut squares slightly larger than needed, stack them on the die and then run it through the machine. Easy peasy lemon squeezey! Lots of hexagons - instant gratification and perfect to boot!

Very easy to use. Rag quilt made with ease. I love the fact that I don't spend "days" cutting the fabric out. I now can get it cut in a matter of hours. I've had my cutter about a moth and I am on my 3rd quilt. I get so excited every time I get my Accuquilt Go! out to cut fabric for a new project.

Love this die because I would never take the time to make a rag anything without it. Hate it because after making 40 rag aprons I think that it is getting dull. The blades keep coming out of the foam and I takes forever to pick all the threads out between the blades. However, I will buy another one when I can no longer get this one to cut because I love the way these aprons turned out. One die cut 444 rag squares of fabric in about 4 hours. I can not complain. It was worth the money. Word of advice. Don't try to cut more than 2 or 3 layers at a time. It cuts better with fewer layers.

Good die with caveats

My husband bought me a Go Big machine for Christmas and after researching rag quilts, I decided to buy the larger Go rag square die to make my first rag quilt. I watched the videos on the Accuquilt website to make sure I followed the recommendations, which is not to cut more than two layers of flannel. From the very first pass through my machine, the brand new die did not cut all the way through. I purchased the die from another retailer, and thought maybe I got a bad one, but now I had a full quilt worth of fabric to cut, so I continued on. I had only gotten through a small stack of fabric when the die was getting worse, almost like scoring the fabric rather than cutting it. I felt like there wasn’t enough pressure from the machine to cut the flannel, so I put a few pieces of paper on top of the mat and passed it through the machine. That did the trick for the most part. I still had to cut some threads, but it was much better at cutting through. I had an idea that maybe the Accuquilt Go was better for this die, and ended up getting a used one to save on costs. That was definitely the way to go, because it cut through perfectly. Overall this is still a good die, because it saves on a lot of manual cutting. You just may have to be creative when using it depending on the type of machine you’re using it on.

I have quite a few GO! Dies, and this one is the most labor intensive one. After each use, you must pick the fibers out of the die, and there are A LOT of nooks a crannies in this one because of the way it cuts the fringe in it. Sewing it took some getting used to, to make sure when you sewed your fringe wasn't going to get in the way or stick out the back of the square. It took 2 yards of flannel to produce a 19" x 26" piece/mini quilt; so a baby quilt would necessitate 4 yards of flannel, there is a lot of the yardage lost in the fringe. This is a great "quilt as you go" method, and once you get into a rhythm it isn't bad, but contesting with the fringe when you are sewing isn't very much fun.

I thought I would get more use out of this, but after trying it once, I probably won't use it again. I understand the need for it to be an on angle, but that just makes it harder to use. And the fact that it only cuts 2 squares doesn't make it very efficient. I needed 104 squares and after trying it, it just didn't seem worth the hassle and the waste of expensive fabric. Instead, I used my 3.5 inch strip die and cut strips, and then cut the squares from those with my rotary cutter. I do LOVE the strip dies. Just not this one.
