This is one of the best purchases I've ever made! Works great on my new construction lawn.
This spreader is well made and durable. It's made for commercial use or on large property. I just wish the #100 model or a scaled down version for residential use with a 15,000 square foot bag hopper was built with the same gear case and tires. I'm sick of buying Scotts garbage that cause fertilizer burn all over the yard. Please Agri-Fab build this same unit scaled down for residential consumers and you will sell hundred's of thousands of them.
I bought this product because it appeared to be constructed better than the green ones that every one uses, and it was not as expensive as the commercial ones that I looked at. I used it for the first time to over seed my 3/4 acre lot and then I applied some starter fertilizer, and I would like to say I could not be happier. The Agri-Fab 130 is incredibly stable and the flow is accurate and smooth operating. I can say with a great deal of certainty, that I expect to get many years of service from this spreader.
Great spreader and holds a ton of material. My yard isn't level or smooth, but the tires just float across with ease. The only reason I didn't give five stars is because I was missing a few small pieces of hardware, that I had to wait an additional 4 days to receive. Other than that I love it!!!
I purchased this unit based on the price and the fact you can purchase replacement parts. Unit only took about an hour to put together. I just only gave it 4 stars due to the push nuts supplied. I am not a fan of them. They are a pain to drive on and they rust quickly. I replaced them with shaft collars. Other than that, I believe this spreader will out last me. I do like the orange paint scheme.
I bought this spreader after doing comparisons of different manufacturers spreaders. It took me an hour and a half to assemble it because the instructions were somewhat vague. I also took note of the past reviews that said one of the main problems was the retaining cap would come off holding the non-drive wheel on. So, during my assembly I modified the axle. I installed the washers, spacer bushing and the wheel. I added a thin washer on the outside of the wheel. Then added 1/8 inch clearance and drilled a 5/32 inch cross hole through the axle. I installed a 5/32 inch roll pin through the axle to retain the wheel. You can drill multiple size holes depending on your retaining method. I could have installed a cotter pin or a spring pin but chose to install a roll pin to retain the wheel. It took me about 20 minutes to modify the axle to make sure the wheel never comes off. Too bad the factory doesn't do the same thing. Even with the roll pin added the retaining cap can still be installed.
I bought this spreader for de-icing salt and gravel. It is much larger and sturdier than the ones that were available at my local big box store. It took about an hour to assemble and the instructions were decent but not great. I find that the agitator is much too small for this size spreader. It's just a coter pin so damp sand did not flow at all. Even with dry salt I needed to shake the machine a lot in order for the salt to flow. I would like to rig up something to vibrate the hopper while pushing the spreader. That would solve the problem but it will be a project for another day. My other criticism is that since there are no deflectors, an equal amount of product flies back at your legs as flies outwards. Not great if you don't like being cover with salt. All in all, this is a large sturdy spreader with a few flaws that Agri-Fab could probably solve quite easily.
Spreader is very heavy duty and solid and should last a very long time. The controls are easy to work as well. I gave it 2 stars because the large gear that turns the broadcaster is way too loose, with too much wobble and causes the gears to slip every half turn. I've been in contact with agri-fab about this already and they are aware of the issue and are in the process of replacing the gear with one that has a straight bore instead of a taper which is allowing it to wobble and slip.
