I bought Alienware 15. Overall I'm impressed with performance. Its a great Notebook for Productivity like, Video editing, 3d modeling, Photoshop and office works as well as great gaming power, i got the mobility and Fun with gaming and sharing with friends. Build quality is unique. And it's worth the Price. Thanks to Alienware for great balancing notebook for dual use.
I originally wanted to buy the AW13. I wanted something small and fast, however I was not happy with a dual core i7 and an outdated 8 series GPU. Then I started to read about the AW 15. It had everything i wanted, other than the bigger size. It has a 9 series gpu, quad core i7, smaller than the old gen AW 14 and my current 17 inch laptop. It is lightning fast, looks great, and does everything I want. Only con would be the size, which could have been a little thinner and smaller. I can deal with the price and battery. We all want those to be lower and longer lasting, but that's like wanting a Lamborghini to be the same price as a Honda, and just as fuel efficient . Other than that con, everything else is a plus, which outweigh the cons. I would suggest this to anyone. Might be pricey like I said, however, you get what you pay for, performance. If it were a little thinner and lighter, it would be 100% perfection. For now, I am good with 95%. My specs are i7 2.5 proc (3.5 with turbo) 16 gigs DDR 3 ram 1080p IPS screen 256 gig SSD, 1TB HHD Nvidia 970m 3 gig VRam Windows 7
When I first was looking for a laptop, it was in the beginning of the year. I really wanted a 980M an a high resolution screen. I waited until some of the competitors came out with the slimmer designs but they were all limited to a 970M or if they were more powerful, battery life was terrible. I was really worried about how I was going to take advantage of the high res screen with a mobile graphic card and the trade off of battery life. After having this machine for a couple weeks, I am very satisfied with my decision to go with a 4K, i7, 16 GB, 980M Alienware 15. The laptops I chose over this one was the Aorus x5 and the Razer Blade 2015 I was watching many reviews of the competitors and I was torn between a couple. The choice that really made it for me was the battery life, as I wanted a machine I could game with and use it for work (mostly on battery) 4K gaming is possible, especially on older titles. It really brings out the life of older titles and make them look simply amazing. 4K res on the following games: Street Fighter Ultimate, Dead or Alive 5, Dragon Age Origin, 2 and Inquisition (has to be set low in 4K), Final Fantasy 14 (changed settings to standard laptop), Final Fantasy 13 (All settings turned up in 4K, 40-45 fps), GTA 5 (60 FPS, everything on normal, except for shadows on high). There isn't much more to describe a game on this screen at 4K but it's breathtaking. I put my nose to the screen to see if I can see pixels. None found. For games that just can't run at 4K, changing the resolution to 1920x1080 looks fine on this screen and still look sharp. Might need to play with the settings so you can keep a native 4K and run 1080p in full screen without changing your desktop resolution. As for other 4K content, it is pretty slim out there. I made the decision to future proof myself for when 4K videos are a bit more popular. Having 4K wallpapers and watching 4K videos on youtube, it's a sight to behold. Plus a lot of smart phones can take 4K video and pictures, which look amazing on this IPS panel. DPI scaling is a pain at times, certain windows are tiny, like Origin and RDP sessions, if you care about that but with that trade off, I can fit a lot more windows on the screen. I have it at 175% scaling. When I need it for work, having the ability to have more windows on a laptop screen is mighty helpful, even better with the split screen ability with Windows 8. For some numbers, the speakers are what everyone else says, not a lot of bass but the speakers sound good. They average around 90 db, seen it spike past 100 db at times. Fans on load are around 60-65 db. Loud but it's not a high pitch sound. Regular use is silent. As for battery life, productivity real world is about 4-4.5 hours. Streaming anything seems to be about 3 hours or so. I use BatteryBar and it tends to hover around 20 mwh, that's with 20% screen brightness and Alienware FX off. Using the Windows apps seem to cut down on battery use, like the Netflix app watching a 40 min episode dropped the battery around 15-20%, screen about 50%. Some of the things I wish they could change in the future. Smaller power brick. I had to switch the 180 W for a 240 W one, it's ridiculously big but oddly, almost the same weight as the 180 W and a bit more flat. I knew about the laptop's weight going in but you can get used to it. It does make it feel super solid though. The keyboard and fx lights are great but I wish there was a mode to make them even brighter. The speakers sound good but I wish they added the sub-woofer like they did on the Alienware 17. Screen hinge is a bit tight, will need two hands to open it. Some of the things I love on this- 4k touch screen (on Windows 8, it's nice), keyboard (I don't care much for chiclets keyboards, too hard to find the keys without looking and slippery), click buttons so I can turn off the tapping, no USB 2 ports, all of them are USB 3, sound quality is pretty decent, the powerful internals and the intangible factor of being one of the few with this kind of laptop, no fruit logo. Changing colors when I desire is fun via Alienware FX.
Glad I got the Alienware 15. Very fast, good graphics, specs are all that I needed for everyday computing and gaming. I would recommend anyone in the market for a new laptop to get this one. The battery run down just a bit but its workable.
This computer is the first high-end laptop I've ever owned, and it does not disappoint. Typing (which I do a lot of) is comfortable, the display is gorgeous, the AlienFX are captivating, and the performance has been excellent for my purposes. I recommend this PC to anyone who is interested in a fantastic gaming/general computing experience.
I just recently purchased the Alienware 15 with the truelife touch, 16 gig memory and 256 SSD and I couldn't be more satisfied. It boots up fast other than the first initial boot, the facial recognition software is great and the machine is very quiet even when the fans are going and it doesn't get very hot, I can set it on my legs with no discomfort. I didn't purchase the graphics amp but I did get the mouse and vindicator briefcase with it. I highly recommend this laptop to anyone even the casual gamer as you wont be disappointed with it.
I must say, I am very impressed with my new Alienware 15. I am a gaming and tech enthusiast and did quite a bit of research before making the purchase. It used to be that Alienware prices were a premium, but now they are on par with models of similar specs on the market, which is great. And when you take into account the amazing build quality of this laptop, you really are winning. So, why I like it so much over anything else out there? Well, the Alienware 15 manages to strike the perfect balance between power and size. This thing has horsepower, and in the gaming world that equals heat. This is why I just can't recommend the really thin and light gaming laptops out there. Putting power into something really thin just doesn't work well - unless you want to burn your legs and run sub-optimally. The Alienware manages heat like a pro, which means it runs at top performance. That's just the way it is for now - I'm sure later on down the line when the tech becomes better, Alienware will get thinner, but that's not yet. So do yourself a favor and stay away from all these 1 pounders and get an Alienware if you actually want to game. Build quality is great. This isn't a big piece of plastic that will get destroyed easily. It switches between NVidia graphics while gaming and Intel HD for everything else, which helps battery life. I get over 7 hours if I'm not gaming which is pleasantly surprising. I have the OS on the M.2 drive, which gives ridiculously fast boot times (a few seconds). Oh, it's also easy to get into the bottom via a few screws. I even like the track pad! Thanks for a great product, keep up the good work!
I am beyond happy I purchased the Alienware 15 laptop. I am able to play my favorite FPS games (Call of Duty Advanced Warfare and Battlefield 4) with no issues. I was going to buy either an ASUS or MSI but decided to go with Dell because I never had a problem with my XPS 14 Ultrabook. I used the XPS 14 mainly for work. The Alienware laptop is expensive but it is well worth it.
Very powerful system. I understand that this computer was made to be as light as possible and still perform well. In that respect, it is very good. However, I am somewhat disappointed in the sound system. Overall, the sound is good. Rich, full sound with clear highs and some bass. However, the volume is not high enough. When compared side by side to my Latitude E6540 high-end business laptop, I found the Latitude to be about 30% louder. The Alienware sound QUALITY was better, but could not match the latitude volume. Unfortunately, I've been spoiled by another computer. Years ago, I owned a Dell XPS 14 L401x with JBL speakers. The L401x had the best sound from any of the 200 laptops I've worked with over the years. Even slightly better clarity than Dell's XPS 15 and 17s (L501x, L502x, L701x and L702x), which also had JBL sound. My system: 17 processor with Radeon R9 295x, UHD touch display.
Ordered a beautiful Alienware 15 with touchscreen, 980m and I-7 processor. Turned it on and it wouldn't boot to Windows. Eventually after two days of investigation discovered that a graphics card was bad and returned it. Alienware was great about everything, and was very helpful. However, it's disconcerting that a basic thing like a graphics card would be broken out of the box. Other than that, everything was wonderful. It's a fantastic if heavy machine, with great cooling and a vivid screen. Too bad it didn't work.
