This is update for my prior review. Just two days after receiving the unit I had storm roll thru Illinois cutting power to my house for seven hours. It was raining heavily, so sump pump was running almost continuously. I fired up this generator and hooked it up to the 1/3 HP pump. Is was running very well with just a hint of overregulation when pump was kicking in (rpm would rise than drop a bit and rise again to stabilize at required frequency). My pump has electronic control instead of regular float switch so I wondered if generator would cause any issues with it. It wasn't the case seven hours later pump still was working like it should. Generator used less than gallon of fuel during this run so it was close to claimed by manufacturer. Voltage shown on the meter was 120 both with pump on and off. Noise level remained acceptable with the load on, no smoke or funny smells. Oil level was same as initial and it didn’t appear dirty. Engine didn’t have any visible leaks anywhere. I have my confidence in this unit much improved (I wasn’t expecting it to be this good based on the price).
I got this generator for those few times when electricity is down due to storm or grid problem. I unpacked it and added oil and gas per instructions. It fired immediately and run smooth after five seconds. I connected lamp to it and there was output. I like simplicity of it with minimal controls. Generator is built with OK quality - more than acceptable for the price. Shipping box could be little sturdier for the weight of the unit. Hopefully carrier will not abuse the package. I'm planning first oil change after just couple of running hours to help break in. Unit seemed to be factory run/tested but than drained from oil. There was bit of it left in the crank case preventing possible rusting.
