I have curly african american hair. my hair is curly and wavy with looser curls in the front and tighter curls in the back. i just found out that i am protein sensitive so i have had a hard time replacing my beloved eco styler gel. i tried wetline extreme which holds and keeps my curls in check for the week but it flakes a little. I used to use the black ampro when i first started wearing my natural curls in 1999 but it dried my hair out becuase it had protein in it. Fast forward to 2018 and I am so glad that ampro made this protein free gel. It still hold my curls and keeps the frizz at bay but it also leaves it feeling nice and smooth and soft, not crunchy because of the coconut oil i guess. The product also mixes well with other products where my ecostyler didn't work with anything and wetline extreme only worked with a few things, it seemed. This gel is everything i have been looking for it has the hold, no protein, no silicones, and no alcohol or other bad stuff. It is nice to be back with ampro where I started!

This is an odd hair gel. It just melts into your hair easily and does not leave a noticeable residue or build up, which are great, but you have to use 3 or 4 times the amount of usual hair gel, and even with that, it seems to disappear and not have any remaining to actually tame down frizz or hold your hair in shape. As a result, it ends up being quite expensive due to having to use so much, and it still doesn't work. I'll say this: it smells great.
