Arrived well-packaged with no chips, cracks, or breakage! I bought one, without a handle, over two years ago here on the Walmart website, but not from this seller. Wanted to see if I'd like it in the kitchen to hold sugar and flour. Loved it! But haven't been able to find it in stock again in all that time. Even went to the Anchor Hocking website and the gallon barrel jars are no longer on the site. Although this pair was a little pricey because of the handles, I was happy to get them. Now, I have a barrel jar to put flour in to match the sugar jar and an extra in case one breaks. Too bad Anchor Hocking seems to be phasing them out. They are great jars!
I bought this jar for pickled eggs. It works wonderfully.
I bought several of these for making vinegars and pickles. While this may be an unusual use for this item, I would recommend including a screen to fit within the lid.
We bought three of this same jar about four years ago. One of them cracked eventually but the others have held up. We keep them on the counter to hold sugar, flour, etc.
LIDS DO NOT TIGHTEN DOWN, MAKING THE JARS UN,USABLE FOR SEMI,AIR TIGHT STORAGE. IN FACT, WHEN GRASPING THE 'CLOSED LID' TO PICK UP THE JAR, THE LID COMES OFF AND DROPPING THE JAR IS A VERY REAL POSSIBILITY. THIS IS NOT THE QUALITY NORMALLY ASSOCIATED WITH ANCHOR HOCKING PRODUCTS.
