It's pretty much what it looks like-a bowl. It's made of glass and is kind of heavy, but that just means its more stable and not cheap, unless you drop it on something hard like concrete...My beta fish seems happy enough in it. It's pretty small, but for the price you pay, I think it's fair. All the accessories I bought for it won't fit, though, so I may upgrade someday.
This bowl is great for bettas. They have a lot of room to explore. My betta, Snow, is currently using this fish bowl and she seems to be very content. However, I would never recommend it for any other fish species. Bettas have special organs that allow them to breath from the surface of the water. Other fish, like goldfish, do not have this and will suffocate in a fish bowl. Betta's do great in these as long as you change the water at least once a week.
