I bought this for $25. And it came with everything I needed. I used it for 3 years, and it never failed me. The people who are rating this 1 star are apparently very, very picky. For crying out loud, this comes with the incandescent lights, hood, filter, fish food, you name it. It just doesn't come with the fish. And it's perfect for starting out. Go to a pet store, and you'll have to pay for everything separately at a much higher price. And now I've upgraded my tank and it's the same brand... I got the package that came with everything. You can't go wrong with this. I'm a very happy customer. And my pets are, too.
I bought my 29 gallon tank and the accompanying hood 4 years ago for my 10" long comet goldfish. Before that, I had the 10 gallon version for 3 years. My mom now has my old 10 gallon tank and it's still working perfectly. I have never had a problem with the bulbs in either hood, and the 10 gallon has survived 4 moves without incident so they're pretty durable. I am looking to replace my 29 hood now because a clip that hold the front part of the hood broke the last time I changed my tank - but that's what happens when you accidently drop it on the floor (oops). On the other hand, both bulbs are still working fine, even after the fall.
i brought this product thinking it would attach to my fish tank it doesn't but at least my 2 year old wont be able to get anything inside the tank.
After reading the other review, I was a little hesitant to buy this Aquarium Hood, but did anyway. First Day I put the bulbs in one burned out. Im going to purchase another one today and hope it stays working. Im a little disappointed in myself should have just went with a different brand period.
I've only been using this for about a month. I went to clean my tank and wipe down the hood. The bulb just fell out into my hand with the metal part that it screws into still attached to the bulb. I checked the other side and it also just came right out. This hood is junk and I would not recommend it to anyone.
I bought this about a year ago for a tank I already had. Luckily it fit perfectly. Unfortunately that's where the good ends. I bought 2 bulbs & put them in, one on each side. Within a week one of the bulbs started flickering. I could tap on it & it would come back on. I assumed it was the bulb so I switched it with the bulb on the other side (the good one). Then the bulb didnt work at all. So I switched the bulbs back to their original spots and now neither of them work. I still use the tank hood, but only as a lid to help control evaporation & to keep my pets out of the water. When I decide my fish need light again, I definitely wont be purchasing this item.
Within three weeks the blubs and metal sockets fell out! They just popped out and were floating in the tank. I could not get them to go back in so the hood is worth it if you never want to look at your fish at night! Waste of money and clearly there is a problem when over half the people have the same issue! Very Poor Quality!
This is the second hood that we bought and they both lasted barely a month before the metal piece for the light bulbs fell out. This is truly garbage.
This hood came with the AquaCulture aquarium kit that we bought at WalMart. We hadn't had it a month before one of the bulbs began flickering. We replaced it, no change. Then it began to go out, coming back on if we tapped the hood. Now, three months out of the box, it doesn't come on at all. I have been trying to get in touch with the manufacturer, which was difficult to track down. I have been in touch with several companies who finally state, we did not make this. The last company, All-Glass Aquarium, has not responded to my e-mails. I will not purchase this brand as a replacement!
This hood was included in the aquarium set I purchased from Walmart. Within a month, both bulbs flickered and then went out. I bought replacement bulbs and they two went out quickly. Then, it no longer mattered if I put bulbs in the hood no longer worked. I bought another hood from Walmart thinking the first one was defective. It had the same problems, plus the metal part that the bulb screws into came out on both sides. It won't go back either. Now I couldn't screw bulbs into it if I tried. This hood is a piece of junk and I would not recommend it to anyone.
