I have been using contour next test strips for probably 5-6. years I’ve never had a problem with them compared to other meters and test strips they do not take near as much blood and I have more time to put more blood on the meter if I don’t get enough on it the first time

I have used the Contour Next Test strips and tester for many years. I have to test 10 times a day. The strips are the most accurate strips I have ever used. I've been a type 1 diabetic for 45 years. The Contour Next Strip is the best strip there is HANDS DOWN.

I got my Contour Next EZ meter about 2 months ago. I have tested 3 times a day since. Not a error on any of the strips yet. That is so much better than my freestyle. My Freestyle give me a error 3 or 7 once every 4 to 7 test. I thought that was normal.

I've been using these for some time. I trust there results. Medicare has limited my checking to three times per day. I have the Medtronic 670G with the the Guardian Sensor (3). When I change the sensor I check at least 6 times to calibrate. I use to check 6 to 8 times per day. Not now.

I have used a lot of different test strips for my 2 diabetic children over the past 13 years. The Contour Next are one of my favorite kinds. They use a very small amount of blood and have only a small number of times when I get error messages. I have used a lot of different varieties, and a lot of them will give error messages if you get an insufficient quantity of blood in them all at one time. That happens almost never with the Bayer Contour Next. We now use a CGM, so our quantity of test strips has dimiinished greatly. However, the cost of test strips is so expensive, that I don't want any extra errors. I would recommend these. The biggest downside to them is that insurance doesn't like to pay for them. Also, there are less expensive options available, but these don't seem as frustrating as some do, since I get far fewer

I am using the NEXT test strips for calibration of my Dexcom G5 CGM. The tests are crucial in assuring accurate CGM BG data profiles. I find the test strips provide consistently reliable confirmation and/or corrective data for use with the Dexcom G5 sensors. Very happy with the Contor NEXt results.

Not my choice

I much prefer Freestyle Lite strips. I've been a diabetic for more than 40 years and have used many different strip brands. Freestyle is simply easier to use. 1) It requires a much smaller blood sample so unlike Contour, I don't have to milk my finger. Years of life as a pin cushion shouldn't have to be any worse than it is. 2) The Freestyle strip draws blood from either side, which is much less awkward than Contour. If you test on both sides of the fingers on each hand, the Freestyle meter fits comfortably in your hand at the correct angle. The Contour meter does not. Try it yourself. 3) While some studies have shown that Contour is the most accurate on the market, I have tested it against Freestyle side by side at the same time with little difference. It's my understanding that all meters have a 20% plus or minus result margin of error anyway, and the difference falls within it. Unfortunately, I have to use Contour because I get my Dexcom continuous glucose monitor supplies through Medicare and Dexcom, which has an agreement to use Contour strips as part of its supplies. Thus, Medicare will not pay for Freestyle--even if I don't order the Contour strips that Dexcom supplies--- and unless I want to pay out of pocket, I am forced to use a product I don't like.

Not on PBM formulary list

Reviewed in the USA on 2019-06-05T17:00:00

I don't know who paid whom or who did not pay whom, but the Contour Next is not included in the formulary list of any PBM of an insurance provider that I can use. We are talking about 4 of the 5 largest insurance companies in the state, not just a little plan that provides almost no coverage. Regardless of insurance company, I would have $0 copay for the low accuracy test strips that are available on the formulary list but would need to pay full price out of pocket to use Contour Next....That is a shame because independent lab tests have demonstrated that Contour Next is one of the most accurate (compared to lab results) home meter/test strips on the market.
