I have a 2 year old daughter that loves to get into everything. Until I bought this camera, I had forgotten what it's like to get 5 minutes to myself. The video and audio both come in great on my camera. I have not had any problems with it. I LOVE IT!!! I only wish I could find out how to get another camera!
I purchased my set over a year ago and placed it in our playroom. I loved it so much that I contacted the company and picked up another camera for the kids room. They are a great pair of extra eyes while I am trying to cook dinner or just work in another room. The sound does have a bit of static at times, but I just adjust the monitor until it stops.
This thing does a great job and you can't beat the price. The closest thing I've found was a $300 set-up from Fry's online. This camera as delivered will also support TWO other cameras. But I can't FIND the cameras available alone. The camera and the handheld monitor are only $140 bucks, so if I got two more, that's not much of a set-back. But if you don't need another monitor, I'm wondering how much the cameras alone would go for. Anyone got an idea or a link? These things are great for watching my two puppies dig up my backyard. I can also hear them and turn the camera to keep an eye on them. Wish I could talk to them too, so I'd never have to get up from my computer, lazy as I am.
bought the camera for security at work but did not have the range to 200' without distortion and alot of both video and audio static. took it home to use as a baby monitor. it works great for that. still get a bit of static when standing at certain spots in the room or walking around with the handheld monitor. but acceptable amounts. we left our baby in the living room and had the moniter in the room directly above it maybe 20 feet and the floor seperated the cam from the monitor. if you have a medium sized house ( 5000 sq ft) , this camera should work out for you. any bigger and you will have static issues.
The image was clear on the monitor, good color and good image at night also, but in my instance, I live next door neighbors to my internet/phone provider, and the unit being wireless picked up some drift so had to discern real or drift on the screen...The one time it really did help me, (high foot traffic here all hours of the day and night and I have a blind area where my front door is, reason for the monitor,) I saw a shadow on the window curtain, checked the monitor, saw a man trying to look in the window, and looking at the monitor closer, he was shirtless on a 37 degree night, so thinking even with the shadow on the curtain, it must somehow be drift, but no, there actually was a shirtless man trying to look in...Believe me, if it can happen, it has here...I would purchase this item again if I were to move to a different location and would trust it as a baby monitor anytime...It has 3 different channels for reception but none of the 3 gave me a true reading here in my location... certainly wish it would have, but it may be just what you are looking for, you never know...
I found it marked down nicely in the clearance aisle. It was a very simple system to install. The monitor is set to one of the three available camera channels and each are plugged into power outlets. Thats it! Oh yeah, turn them on. The monitor receives a sufficiently good "X-10" signal to monitor (cannot control) my X-10 wireless cameras on channel two. Like most other wireless systems, the system is prone to some interference, regardless of claims. But I liked it so much that I wanted another camera for channel three. Astak seems uninterested in this product (they now have a popular e-reader to market), as I cannot get just a camera as a spare part. I went to the web site and couldn't find the same camera nor any compatability info. I used their web contact method to ask about a "spare" camera and was told, via form email, that the web site has a link for spare parts. Like that was news. So I ordered a complete new system on-line, hence this review. The new monitor was defective, in that it drifted from channel two, or three, to channel one for 3-4 seconds every 4-5 seconds. This is NOT the auto scan feature. I can't get spares to replace the monitor, so I had to return the product. I'll find one at auction, or in a clearance aisle. Aside from lack of spares, the worst thing about the product was the clamshell packaging.
The video was pretty good and I liked the adjustable camera which worked as advertised. The problem I had was with the audio, there was a loud and constant crackling sound which forced you to turn the sound off, defeating the purpose of having a monitor. I took this back to the store the next day.
I researched MANY different products for baby monitors, and I took a chance on this one for the pan/tilt features it had. It's not worth it. I just got it home and will be returning it in the morning. ISSUES: 1. Reception-is non existent. At 5 feet, it would give you clear picture as long as you did not touch it. As soon as you moved between the camera and receiver it crackled, and if you touched it, it crackled. And it's not just a little static crackle, it's a LOUD popping noise. It's even worse as you move it further away (what's the point of having a camera if you're only 5 feet away?) 2. The motor on the camera would frequently get stuck while panning. It would not respond to any more inputs and the only way to clear it was to unplug the camera. I will pony up and spend the money on a more reliable monitor and forget this one. Don't waste your money.
My husband and I purchased this product to help us keep an eye on our toddler now that he is in a toddler bed. The picture quality is very poor. This wasn't really a problem as long as we could see what our toddler was up to. However, there was excessive static. So much that you would not be able to have the sound on at all. At times, the picture would be too fuzzy from the static. The one we had also had a faulty on/off switch. Needless to say, it was returned to the place we bought it.
Pros: Cheap & Pan w/ Tilt Cons: The signal for video and audio are BAD. The baby crib is about 5 feet from our bed and the Monitor's screen is flickering a little when I touch or move it; the audio is constantly filled w/noises (like fire crackers). Tried to bring the monitor to the living room (about 20 feet away). The signal for video is flickering like crazy and audio is unbearable (can't hear anything except fire crackers). *** I live in an apartment so interfere is inevitable but this is the 3rd wireless camera and the worst one.
