its perfect for camping or survival..love it
it taste like pot roast but the item said chucks and they are a very small diced, was hoping for chunks so I could do beef stew. they are good.
I really liked this to begin with. Unfortunately this last can had gristle in it. Not good.
I want to clarify, as an independent seller of freeze dried foods, the refrigerate after opening makes it last longer but isn't required. Example: opened, this product is only good for a few weeks without refrigeration ( probably... Based on fat percentage, email Auguson farms for specifics) but refrigeration would add a few more weeks and freezing would add months. This product is cooked and freeze dried so only Moisture will spoil it, or extremely hot temperatures for storage. ( that being said, garages or storage units are not good places to store your food storage/emergency supply. A cool, dry place like a closet or pantry or under a bed etc would be best) Just like ketchup or jelly etc.... Jerky.... After opening, refrigeration is best but not totally required. Please ask Auguson farms for a spec sheet on their products. Other companies have them as well and really help for planning actual food storage situation and rationing. However, as long as stored in a cool dry place, my meats always stay good until I use them... But I use them For everyday cooking. If they start to get moisture ( chewy/softer/etc) use them ASAP or freeze them. This will also crisp any FD food back up if they become soggy. ( fridge works for this too) The beef dices are ok, good for soups or a quick stir fry lunch, or in stroganoff ect. Dont expect fresh beef flavor, but it's definitely better than canned meat!!!! Tip everyday cooking: use your sauté pan, add butter, then brown FD meat in butter pan before rehydrating, then slowly add your water and seasonings or simply toss into your soups. Just my suggestion for better flavor. Fat is mostly removed from freeze dried foods which is why foods like ham don't last as long because even FD, the fat content is so high. It since the beef fat has mostly been removed, the butter helps replenish that flavor and texture.
Originally I have seen the price at Walmart about 40.00 plus?. The other day I saw it at a reduced price of $31.70. I thought it was a fairly good price. After I read the reviews of only being half full I started comparing another manufacturer and what I found, is the other vendor gives more food for the dollar. I told a couple friends about the sale and saw that they reduced the price twice, now. From $31.79, down to $27.25. I called Walmart.com and they honored the price change before my items were shipped to the store. Now that's a deal!
this product is not cheap. i expected to get my monies worth such as a full can, not half full.
I am still upset with this purchase and may return it to Wal-Mart. This was bought for "emergency use" and lo and behold right there on the can it says "refrigerate after opening"! Are you kidding me? If I keep it and have to open it might as well invite the whole neighborhood and let them think I bought provisions for everyone! It says this in smaller print on the back of the can.
