I bought these for use after some major disaster to our food supply line.. These are non-hybrid, heirloom seeds.. In general, the plants will not produce in size or abundance as compared to hybrid varieties but you can harvest the seeds from the fruit and vegetables, dry them, and replant them the next year and expect a yield- year after year. You cannot do that with seeds gathered from hybrid vegetables.. Hybrid seeds may not sprout; if they do, they may revert to a generation or more backwards; they may sprout and all you would get would be a 2 leaf mutant. I believe these will stay fresh for 5 years if unopened.. might last 7 years if frozen.
I haven't used the seeds yet but I plan on planting a few when the water gets warmer and ordering another for backup if all goes well. Overall, it shipped fast, well packed and thousands of seeds for $20 something dollars + S&H. No complaints as of yet.
most seeds are hybrids & the vegetables wont produce seeds ,but these seeds will make vegges that produce seeds year after year. a preppers dream come true ! !
Augason Farms Non-Hybrid Vegetables Garden Seeds were everything I expected, package for freshness and very high quality. We have already planted and have seedling coming up. :) I would definitely recommend this item to my family and friends.
I haven't had access to my car for several months as it's at a relative's house for repairs, so I was unable to shop for garden stuff to start a garden this year. However, I did buy this can of garden seeds from Auguson Farms, so I can get an early start next year. I like that they are non-hybrid, too. I will try to get my father to order a can, too. He has a much larger property, and has a garden every year. This is also a good product to keep on hand in case of some major calamity. It's nice to know that I can start a garden and grow some food if some major natural or other type of disaster occurs.
The price really has gone way up on this item. I bought this a couple years ago for much less. If I realized at the time, I had forgotten, this states it has a five year shelf life. I guess I always thought seeds lasted forever if kept in a dark cool area. I have not planted the first seed yet and with only a 5 year shelf life, looks like I will have to GET ER DONE next planting season! With that said, these are hybrid and will produce more seeds.
This item arrived in a timely manner and was packaged to last a while.
I had a can of therse seeds from 2011. I came across it in a closet and since it was so old ( they say good for 5 years this was 9 years old) I was going to throw itaway then I decided to just open the can to get a visual of how many seeds were included and they all l,ooked ok. I had started a garden plot but things happened and I got busy and never planted and it was too late in the season according to every guide I checked so I ended up just throwing the 9 year old seeds around the plot I figured the birds would eat the seeds or whatever, I didn't plant any seeds or water the garden nothinf and I just pulled 100 pounds of Zucchini and cucumbers and squash out of the garden, There are tiny baseball size melons also growing in the garden and the corn, tomatoes and other plants a re growing just not ready to harvest! Amazing!
Oh my goodness !!!!!! I've been looking for the best price on this can of seeds ! Walmart had it ! They slashed the price and were able to get me these seeds ! This is a must have if you are learning to grow your own vegetables or just want a emergency stash ! This is part of my prep! This pandemic made me realize I really need to be putting more stock up seed wise ! I'm want to can as much as I can from my garden ! This will help if I run out of seeds !!!
I can't tell you how well these seeds grow but I can confirm they are the best value on the Net. Also, they have a five year shelf life.
