I'm a big tech guy, so a product has to have a real wow factor to impress me. After reading many reviews like this one, I took a leap of faith and purchased a August lock for my new home build. The setup was super easy, the fit and function is perfect. I had the lock installed and set up in 15 mins. I was concerned about the Geo fence, but I have to say, 9 times out of 10 my door is unlocking as I walk up to it.
We had the first generation and absolutely loved it, we decided to upgrade with the built in WiFi. Absolutely best smart lock on the market. Easy set up! Couldn't be happier. Thanks August!

We had been interested in acquiring a smart lock for nearly two years, but couldn't find one that was simple to install and fit in our decor. Not only does the August Smart Lock check these two boxes, it can be programmed to automatically lock when you leave and unlock when you return!

We have had two of these licks one on front door and one on garage door nor for a couple of years. Don't know how we lived without them . We use rechargeable batteries in them and love how the app lets us know when to recharge so we don't arrive home to non functional locks.
I have two previous model locks which I had no problem to setup, but I ran into a few issues setting this one up. Although not indicative of everyone's experience, I used the wrong tailpiece, then I had issues getting it setup for HomeKit. But after a factory reset and re-setup, it is working. I have noticed a slower response than the other previous models, but it does work.
Installation was fairly easy, though I did face some issues. The sensor cap doesn't stay on snug and fell off and never found it after it fell. Perhaps our dog got a hold of it and ate it. I would've been great if it had a snap-on function and it would remain in place. So as it stands, it now presents a bare look rather than a clean blended look. Would be satisfied if a replacement was sent. Another issue was unlocking with my Apple Watch. It takes a moment unlike as advertised in the video. The lock randomly loses connect to WiFi. My setup if fairly extensive as I'm using one of the best gaming routers. Perhaps it's because it runs off of a 2.4 GHz system and prone to interference. Owned it just under a month and I live in a gated community so it does have it's added security feature of being able to remotely lock/unlock from anywhere around the world and compliments my home video security system.
Overall the device was easy to install, and works pretty good. The App is easy to use. I do find myself having to wait in front of my door a few extra seconds for the door to unlock when I approach. The connectivity to Alexa and Home kit are not always reliable. I would prefer to bypass these third party apps and just have the ability to set schedules on the August app. Overall a trust worthy wifi lock
I had been on the waiting list for this lock since it was first announced. Easy to install, relatively easy to set up in the app, after taking three tries. Now, I find that it does nearly everything perfectly, but for a couple of niggles. First, the feature I most looked forward to was Auto-Unlock, when I got on my WiFi, the lock is supposed to unlock. Sometimes it does, about half the time I see the attached picture in the notification, and I have to either get out my phone and use the app, or get out my key and use it. Less than ideal. Second, I'll go into settings to make sure everything is ok, and I'll just get a message telling me to connect to the lock to change the settings. The lock I just opened with the app, the lock that shows its status on the home screen. Again, sometimes it works, most times doesn't, and I can't find any rhyme or reason. I've been in IT for well over a decade, I know, very well, how the phone works, how my WiFi interacts with everything IOT in the house, Nest thermostat, smart lights, Google Nest Hub and Mini, and Amazon echo. This lock just doesn't work consistently.
This is my second attempt at purchasing an August Lock for my entryway. We like a clean doorway with no knob, just a deadbolt. We think it's because we have no knob, but for whatever reason, the August just doesn't work. It's unresponsive when we try to lock or unlock the door. It says it's unlocked when it's locked and vice versa sometimes. It just hasn't been a good purchase for us.
