Quickly heats up in a couple of minutes, not instantly. Instructions say for hotter curlers, let heat up longer, thus must not have thermosthat. Product is fine if you only need 5 large rollers. My hair is fine and slippery, so the flocked rollers will slip out if not secured properly, but the other plastic clips with combs (included) do hold better (but put dents in my style!). Why 5 rollers? I need 1 more because of long bangs. As I use them more, there are easier to secure properly with the metal clips. I bought these for ease of use every day, the small compact package for travel and to have something that was gentler than the curling iron. Ive decided to take my curling iron when traveling and keep these for everyday use since they are more gentle if not heated too much.
