I will never buy another shoe

I've never been a runner, but recently started running 3-5 miles every day. During the fire academy We ran 4-8 miles a day plus calisthenics and I wore mizuno wave riders. I am a mid foot striker and an over pronater. I also have pretty flat feet, about 5'10", and weigh 206. I recently found out that I needed a stability shoe and one of the guys at the fire station recommended these. Just ran 9.5 miles this morning absolutely pain free and I just got these yesterday!! First thing I could notice differently was the wider toe box... absolutely amazing! Secondly, the zero drop shoe took some getting used to, especially on the downhills but again ZERO PAIN while I ran! This is the best stability shoe I have ever put on my feet and would recommend this 1,000,000 times!

No custom orthotics needed...

I've been running in Altra's for many years now, but until the Provision came along I was still modifying the insoles to accommodate my custom footbeds. I've always had flat/wide feet and as I got older my over-pronation issue continued to get worse so I turned to very expensive custom othotics to keep me moving. I've gone through 2 pair of the Provision 3 and I'm onto the 3.5. Same great ride, they hold up well beyond 500 miles of training runs, and they dry very well after wet outings. More importantly, words won't do justice to how nice it is not having to go through the process of getting my foot into a shoe keeping my ortho in place, socks from bunching up, etc. (serenity now!) I just put them on and I'm out the door. I would say that Altra could do a bit more with the styling of the upper on these shoes to be more in sync with their non-stability lineup. I might be old, but I still dig good looking kicks.

Great for my feet, helped me break barriers

I've had these for a couple weeks or so, I run about 40-60 miles a week. These have pretty much completely eliminated all of the overpronation pains that I was having trouble with in traditional running shoes with no stability support. These are actually my favorite shoes to date. I'm looking forward to the next generation to come out in March or April so I can get a pair of those. Keep up the good work altra.

I have been a soldier for 16 years and have dealt with serious pain from stress fractures to lower back pain-all from running. After talking to a friend about it he recommended these shoes due to their zero drop and guard rail technologies. All I can say is that I am amazed and am a customer for life. I ran 3 miles today without an ounce of pain, and I haven't done that in years. I am an over-pronator and these shoes make my foot strike feel solid and comfortable. Thanks Altra, you've made running painless and enjoyable again!

Im a heavier guy that is trying to get into shape, I have flat feet and recovered from achilles tendonitis/peroneal tendonitis. Altra brand helped me regain muscle strength that I was lacking wearing other brand shoes that were more a fashion statement than actual footwear. The provision 3.5 is everything I wanted in a shoe, FUNCTIONAL, comfortable, and makes you feel like you can take on the world. I like the color choices they chose - very classy with the all black. please keep this for the next gen. My only request is that the white bar for the next gen be dark gray or black so the shoe actually is ALL BLACK. otherwise, its more premium material this time around as well. sizing is the same, i have wide feet and these fit perfectly fine.

Great shoe

When I first tried these on, my initial impression was that they felt a little shorter than what I was used to in a running shoe and slightly wider, coming from the Brooks Ghost. I decided to give them a shot, due to Altra's return policy. I'm glad I tried them! These shoes are amazingly comfortable once you get used to the wider toe box. I have about 50 miles on them and they get more and more comfortable with every run. I haven't had a single blister either. I used to get blisters in my Brooks, mostly the outside of my pinky toes. It turns out the feeling of a shorter length was not an issue.

I have 2 pairs. The Provision for every day use and the Torin for running. The wide toe box and zero drop are designed for feet. My plantar fasciitis is also going away after combining these shoes with stretching. I never realized the damage of a narrow toe box. Awesome shoe.

Felt perfect, but peeled apart in 10 days.

Light, comfortable, stable, awesome, love the zero-drop. I've worn size 14 Men' Brooks Beast for years, and a size 13 Provision was perfect because of the ample room for my middle toes. However, the sole treads began peeling off after 10 days of daily wear and only 4 miles of running. Thanks to Altra's guarantee, I was able to get a refund. I may try one more pair to see if the first bad pair was a fluke.

Nice shoes with a mid-sole that's too firm for me

So you know a little about the basis behind my review, let me tell you that I'm a male, weigh 131 pounds, and have low-volume feet. As far as my running is concerned, I'm a heel-striker who has some pronation, and I run about 35 miles per week at 7.5-9 minutes per mile with hills. Fit of this shoe is wonderful. Roomy in the forefoot and fitted in the mid-foot and heel. Heel to toe transition is very smooth. Really loved the built-in varus wedge. It supported my pronation like few other shoes I've ever worn. This should be a standard for pronation control instead of a rarity. What spoiled this shoe for me was how firm the mid-sole was, particularly on heel strike. On heel strike, the shoe offered little cushioning and was punishingly firm. The firmness in the mid-foot and forefoot was appreciated and helped to control the pronation. Perhaps if Altra were to put their new Ego mid-sole in the heel, at least on the outside, this could be a great shoe. For a contrast, see my review of the Paradigm 4.0.

This shoe was too tight on the back side of the toe box. It squeezed my foot. I returned a size 13 for a 14 and it still was a poor fit. My Torin 3.0 does not exhibit this tightness. It appears that Altra has changed their design shape to the detriment of their shoes. Tried several other models and I had a similar poor fit. Wide toe box is ok but the fit tapers too quickly and squeezes down on my foot. Why the change? Look at the dimensions used that you followed on the Torin 3.0. There also seemed to be very little cushioning in the sole. It felt hard. I also returned this shoe.
