Old school fun!

This game makes me so nostalgic! When I was in elementary school we would fight over the Oregon Trail floppy disc! Computer lab was always about getting the one disc they had of this game first. It was so much fun! This handheld version perfectly captures the old version! It is really an exact replica. Complete with tiny floppy disc reset button! The gameplay and graphics are identical to the original and I promise you won't know the difference! It transported me back on time almost. I was so focused on the game and getting everyone through the trail safely that I forgot everything else! It is so much fun! I wish my kids were old enough to play. It is simple to play but very entertaining. It is small enough to travel with and simply made. I highly recommend it! Thanks for bringing back this awesome part of my childhood!

Are you a child of the late 70s to early 80s? Did you grow up watching Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Goonies and John Hughes movies? Are you part of the first group of kids to grow up with home video game systems, Apple IIs in school and history lessons on those magical machines called Oregon Trail? If so, you will adore this game! This is a miniature recreation of our favorite game, guys. Seriously. It looks like a tiny Apple II! The power button is a floppy disk slot! How cute and cool is that!. More than that, its radical! The game on the system is exactly the original Oregon Trail game we first started playing. I pulled some emulators up, and it's the same! Your party will die of dysentery! Snakebites, wagons getting flooded, people starving! you can hunt and find berries! All the neat little things that make computer lab day totally tubular in elementary school. It's doesn't come with a rectangle of pizza, which would be all you need to recreate the best days of elementary school in the 1980s. I do hope they come out with a sequel with Oregon Trail II, because it was a little funner since you got to customize your wagon and supplies more, but this one still rocks. Even my eleven year old had fun playing it. She finally understands what hubby and I have been talking about all these years when we talk of this fun, educational game. They just don't make educational games this cool anymore! Remember naming your party after the kids you didn't like, just so you could see them get hurt or sick or die? She loved that, too. The little punk in her class drowned and she giggled for awhile. This brings back so many happy school memories. Exactly what we need in this dark world our kids are growing up in! Everyone with fond memories of the 80s and young kids should buy this! I got this free in exchange for an honest review, and i am so happy I did. I plan to buy copies for my nephews for Christmas, this is that awesome! Check my youtube channel (Monkey Momma) soon for game play video!

A blast from the past

The Oregon Trail Electronic Handheld Game is so much fun and reminds me of the good old days. This game can teach you math and other things to learn. It's about the adventure of what people had to go through back in 1848 to make it to the destination. The game can now be held in your hand as you play and it's kinda like holding a game boy. The graphics of the game still look the same as it did when I played it as a kid. The game console looks like an old Apple computer and the part where the floppy disk would go is how you turn it on and off. I liked that it came with battires so you can play it right out of the box. It also has volume control and that's a plus because this small device is very loud. The screen is on the small side considering how big the buttons and stuff are but it's still very clear. One the back side the battires are help in with screw's. When you are done with the game there is a safe button so you don't have to worry about losing what you have already done, and at first I didn't know that and lost everything. It comes with an instruction manual to tell you the basics of it, but the game it's self is pretty straight forward. I would most definitely recommend this to anyone young or old, it's fun to play.

I love this game. I had it when i was a kids playing on the computer. It is still fun to play. Only thing i didn't like about it was when you go hunting. It is a little hard to shoot anything. Other then that it is the same game i remember as a kid. It will still bring fun to people today. It is really good for road trips.

I love this Oregon Trail Electronic Handheld Game!! I remember playing this years ago as a kid on the older computers. This game is just like it!! It's amazing. If you loved playing The Oregon Trail back then you would love this game. Everything about this game is great. It's made goid, very decent and sturdy. Love that it lights up so you can see it better. The sound is also very good quality. It definitely takes me back to my childhood days. Now I'm showing my kids a game I grew up playing but instead of on an old computer, it being a battery operated handheld game. It's really fun and cool, I would buy another in the future. I would recommend this game to anyone who played it as a child. I did receive this item for free to try for being a spark reviewer.

This review is for The Oregon Trail Electronic Handheld Game which will take you back in time to cross the rivers, land masses, mountains and experience the hardships those dear souls had to endure. I'm 62 and this little game was a bit of a challenge to deal with the weather, food, hunting, trading sicknesses and breakdowns. You begin with yourself as the leader, several people, oxen, wagon, supplies such as food, wagon repair parts. You can talk to people in towns you come across and possibly trade for food/supplies. Be careful not to pace yourself to fast because you can run your traveling companions to sickness. It is a time based game, taking you across unforgivable terrain, dealing with the weather and lack of supplies. Dare not to cross some rivers by walking when you should spend money and pay the man running the ferry. You can rest, hunt for food to keep you going. If you leave to late in the year the cold will get you in the mountain passes and leaving too early in the year you'll have to deal with the heat, rain and muddy trails. If you arrive at the end, you will be given points for supplies, people that lived for this long crossing. This little game makes you think of every aspect the settlers had to deal with back in the 1800's. The Oregon Trail game came with clear instructions, requires 3 AA batteries and is a timed game to make you think about your journey and all details regarding your travels which reminded me of the 1980's games with related sounds, graphics from the pass. I give this little game 2 thumbs up!

Good Handheld Game

I received this game as a free product to review. I in time, had this game on one of my old desktop PC's and remember enjoying it very much. Now this is much different than being on a PC screen, but it is still fun, and believe it or not, I am getting better. It's not a fast paced game for anyone that has never played it, but involves a lot of strategy. Now my grandson, whom is 12, caught on right away and of course, put me to shame. No big deal. I still like this game. I like it for the young person's especially because it is like all games should be. It's down to earth with no blood and gore graphics. The game console itself is comfortable in the hand or you can just place it on a table in front of you. The functions are simple to use. Just takes a little getting used to. It did also come with preinstalled batteries which is a plus. Just pull the tab on the back and it is activated. I would recommend this game even to adults. It has a calming effect. Or it does for me. I hope this review helps someone make a purchase decision. .

The Oregon Trail game is fun. Simple to learn to use for people who are over 70. A young child would find fun as can hold in hand and does not need internet connection. There are different challenges you can choose to do, or take the safer route. You can stop and store game and pickup where you left off in game. The game is fun yet not too hard, just a change of pace from games on your phone or IPad. Very durable game for user.

Great Retro Hand Held Computer Game

This Handheld game is layed out very well and appears to be well constructed. The keyboard buttons are of decent size and work great. The only drawback is the screen is rather SMALL and difficult to read, but then again this is a retro game and screens years ago were just as small. For those who enjoyed the old-time handheld games, this is excellent.

Nostalgia rears its cute little head!

The Oregon Trail Electronic Handheld Game appears to be a faithful recreation of the original 8-bit & DOS PC version of the Oregon Trail "edutainment" computer game. The graphics are what would have been called (back in the 1980s) CGA (or at best early EGA), which was typical for computer games of the mid-1980s. The music (played when one arrives in towns, forts or other major landmarks) is retro 8-bit MIDI versions of traditional American folk songs. The screen on the handheld device is small (approx. 2"x1.5"), but surprisingly readable (thank goodness for the low-resolution 8-bit text & graphics of the original game!). If you or your kids have never played the original Oregon Trail game, it's a simplified simulation of a covered-wagon journey from Independence, Missouri to the Williamette Valley in the Oregon Territory in approx. the 1850s. You can choose your occupation (which determines the starting funds and difficulty level), name yourself and the rest of your party, and pick when your trip will start before entering Independence to buy supplies. You'll have other opportunities to stop, shop and talk to fellow travelers along the way - but supplies will get more expensive the farther West you travel. Game navigation is handled via the controls at the bottom: arrow keys, a covered-wagon status key, volume control, Yes/No keys, and Enter. There is a power button, too -- however, I was unable to turn off the device with the power button after finishing my game, and resorted to reinserting the removable battery tab the device was packed with. This was a fun little game, somewhat educational, and less of a traumatic loss than a tablet or phone would be on a road trip. Adults who remember the original game can bond with their kids or grandkids over this. Recommended!
