This subwoofer is simply awesome. It out proforms much more expensive subwoofers
Hands-down best speaker Ive ever owned! But one at a thrift store six months back and amp went out on it. But I was hooked from there had to actually buy one. Bought the upgraded version and holy crap if you want serious bumps in your house get this speaker. Super clean bass. Def worth the money!
After breaking this subwoofer in for about 50 hours (playing a bass test CD on repeat), I believe it sounds 95% as good as it ever will. Frankly, I'm disappointed, and may wind up returning it. Packing it up and taking it back to Walmart, however, is not something I'm looking forward to, so I may wind up keeping it. First of all, it's ported to the side (which I knew before buying), which is unusual and in my case presented something of a problem because there is only one spot where I can place it in the room. This spot is not conducive to side porting. I've tried two other rear ported subwoofers in this exact spot, so I have a basis for comparison. Bass output seems to drop of significantly below approximately 50hz. No matter how loud I turned up the volume I could not feel the lowest frequencies in my solar plexus, which should be the case with a good subwoofer---especially a 12 inch driver, which all other things being equal, should outperform subwoofers with smaller drivers. However, my previous subwoofer (an old Energy) was only 8 inches and 100w RMS....but it outperformed this BIC. I also have another subwoofer in another room (a Mirage OM S-8), also eight inches, which is also definitely a superior subwoofer. I called BIC and spoke with two technicians on speakerphone and was surprised that although one of them was quite knowledgeable in general, neither man was in any way familiar with the specific details of this subwoofer. He offered some good general advice, but nothing that was of any real help. But they were courteous and patient, and I give the company full credit for offering good customer service. I'm not going to get too specific regarding why I didn't like the subwoofer, other than to say that by comparison, it just does not sound as good as it should, especially in comparison to the two other most recent subwoofers I've owned. One of the previous subwoofers was used with the same amp and preamp, wires, connecting method, etc that I'm currently using with the BIC.. Cosmetically, the BIC seems well constructed, and the black finish is excellent. Controls on the back are also excellent. I had to turn up the volume control on the BIC to a higher level than I think is appropriate, and higher than previously used with the Energy, and I also had to fiddle around with rotating it until the port was facing the corner. I tried moving it as close to the corner as possible, but with minimal improvement. If you're more or less an audio neophyte you will probably be satisfied with this subwoofer. However, for anyone with some experience chances are you will be underwhelmed by its performance. It's not a bad subwoofer....just not a very good one.
This is not a bad subwoofer, but only (depending) on what you are looking for. For the most part, the subs are deep and big but as far as powerful, no. These speakers will fill the room with bass but the power ratio will be low. Therefore, it's up to you if you would think this is a good purchase based off the power to sub acoustic ratio.
