Recently I've been having problems with dry mouth. It was a new issue for me but nothing I'd tried before helped. I've been using Biotene Oral Rinse for a couple weeks now and the difference is amazing! It's got a gentle, minty flavor, not medicine-y at all. It has relieved the dryness in my mouth, so that I feel normal again. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Biotene is a product that I've seen in commercials and in stores for a few years but never used or had a desire to use. I never quite understood its true purpose. My thoughts have always been, if you have a dry mouth, drink water. Well, I'm a bit older and have now found that no matter how much water I drink, by late evening my mouth is pretty dry (I'm a financial advisor so I talk all day for a living). Not because I'm thirsty buy just dry and Bioyene has help tremendously. After picking up Biotene to try for my dry mouth issues, I was skeptical as to what it will actually do from me, how often I needed to use it to see results and of it would taste too strong. I tried it, in the evening during a time when my mouth feels the driest. My first impression was that it didnt burn and it wasn't like a flouride wash. As I swished the liquid around my mouth, I noticed a gentle cooling feeling. Not cold, or overly minty, but more like refreshing without an overwhelming mint sting. To my surprise, my mouth felt comfortable. So, my goal was to use the Biotene 5 days in a row to really se the overall affects of the product. I wanted to ensure I wasn't using ing it when I brushed my teeth, but only when I had dry mouth because I didn't want the mint from the tooth paste to affect the feeling I needed to experience from the Biotene. While the instructions recommend that you use the product a few times a day, I found that using the Biotene, right when my mouth felt the driest was most beneficial. Now that I've tried the product I can't imagine not making it a staple product in my home. I must say, I'm impressed by a product I probably would have never tried otherwise. When dry mouth is painful upon awakening. Water doesn't quite do the job.
I like the mildness and how it helps dry mouth!
I have used this product for 8 years. It keeps my mouth clean and super fresh . I honestly only go to get my teeth cleaned every 3 or 4 years and my dentists are always shocked how my teeth have very little to no plaque buildup. I am 52 and I used to have a lot of plaque buildup in between my 6 month or yearly cleanings for the first 40 years of my dental records . I swear the only thing I changed was my mouthwash 8 or so years ago. Prior to this I used a strong mouthwash like Listerine and it hurt my gums. Biotene oral rinse seems to nurture my gums !!( I only use the Gentle Mint ...it seems to have a slightly different ingredient list than the fresh mint and works best for me)
The old formula with the Plaque Bio-Film (PBF) enzymes was absolutely amazing. However, since it was reformulated, and apparently doesn't have the enzymes any longer, it does nothing to prevent dry mouth (at least for me). Please bring back the old formulation that actually worked!
GSK has replaced an excellent product, Biotene Moisturizing Oral Rinse - same formula as PBF, with this DRY MOUTH Oral Rinse. The old product was wonderful - full of good enzymes and very soothing to the mouth. Using it eliminated the plaque problem I had. I have Sjogren's Syndrome and very dry mouth. The new product gets rid of the good enzymes and burns my mouth - so it's less than useless. As far as I'm concerned, GSK has abandoned the Sjogren's and dry mouth communities. They had the best mouthwash on the market and they chose to replace it with something that I can only assume is less costly to produce. I can't imagine who would buy this.
I have dry mouth due to medications and I can honestly this does not help at all. When I first tasted it I was thrilled that it tasted like a mild sweet sugar water (sugar alcohol) which does not burn my sensitive mouth, but taste does not matter if the product does not provide relief. I am surprised the claim states it can help up to 4 hours. My father is a dentist, so I know that dry mouth leads to tooth decay when ignored, so I will go back to another formula.
I used the pbf formula for years and controlled gum disease well. The new formula without enzymes and aloe Vera gel is less appealing, works poorly to reduce dry mouth and is likely going to impact the health of my gums. Why discontinue what was working? Bring the previous formula back. It was a unique product in the market, and the new products are not.....
