This product is lightweight and very easy to use. I have never used a weed trimmer before but felt like a pro within minutes of trying it out on a few tough weeds I had in my yard. I also easily got in between the cracks of my walk to get all the pesky weeds growing there and lined the walk along the sides. I highly recommend this product. Well known brand at a very affordable price, no cords, no gas...just charge and go.
I usually used an electric string trimmer because I almost always had difficulty starting the gas trimmer. Dragging a 100-foot cord around was getting to be a nuisance, so I decided to try a cordless. (I'm a not-very-mechanically-gifted female.) First of all, I was astounded by how quickly I received my trimmer from Wal*Mart. I ordered it on a Wednesday (regular shipping) and FedEx ground had it waiting on my doorstep when I returned from work on Friday. So, I read the directions and plugged it in to charge it for 24 hours and it was ready to go over the weekend. This Black & Decker 12 volt string trimmer is both lightweight and powerful. I was very pleasantly surprised. I highly recommend this trimmer . . . it's a great product and a great value.
I purchased this item as a gift for my folks. I have one just like it that I purchased about 4 years ago. It is wonderful, very lightweight, holds a charge well. Have had no problems
It works well and is lightweight. The pole could be a litlle longer for taller people. The battery does not last very long.
I bought this as a gift for my husband and he loves it! It edges beautifully and he loves that he doesn't have to plug it in. The only negative thing is that the battery doesn't last long enough for him to do the whole lawn. He has to stop, recharge, and finish the next day.
Pros: Can’t beat the price: $59 bucks. Shut up! I really like the ergonomics of this tool. It feels good when I’m holding it. Small, compact and ready for action. This is important to me. If I don’t like the way a tool feels in my hands, it’ll never leave the store. Some of the trimmers are big and clunky. It’s easy to manipulate. Traversing around objects is quite simple because of the size of the guard around the string spool. No problem cutting tough St. Augustine grass here in Florida. It has plenty of power. Changes from trimmer to edger so easy a “cave man can do it”. I can walk along edging without bending my lower back. This is important. It makes the job real easy. The product is very well made. I like the no rust aluminum shaft. The CST1100 trimmer fits nicely on its charger/rack and out of the way when I’m not using it. This tool is so quiet you’ll have to check to see if it’s working. And, guess what? No gas means: no trips to the gas station, no smelly containers to maintain. No power cords means: no cords to unwind before the work is done, no cords to wind up after the work is done and no cords to trip over while the work is being done. It all adds up to cost savings. Cons: If you are looking to annoy your neighbor with a noisy tool don’t buy it because it’s too quiet. This tool is not made for large yards or commercial use. There is only one battery and it can’t be removed and replaced with a fully charged battery once it’s discharged like the more expensive model. Suggestions To Black and Decker: I really like this tool for use by the average homeowner. You need to manufacture the same tool, CST1100, the same size, with an interchangeable battery like the larger model and an adjustable aluminum shaft for height adjustment. I tried the larger model in the store and it feels too cumbersome. If I can’t imagine myself using it, why would I buy it? It felt like I was holding a bazooka in my hands.
I bought one of these trimmers/edgers about 7 years ago and loved it. It's lightweight and edges like a dream. I never had a problem with it loosing it's charge when I'm using it to trim where the mower can't get - around trees, fence lines, mailbox, etc. Last year I did try to take down some heavier weeds we had at the back of our property line (we but up against a farm) and it's charge ran out pretty quickly, but otherwise I couldn't ask for a better machine. Late in the season last year it seized up and I can't get it to start so I'm getting another one this year. For the price, 7 years isn't a bad life.
If you are short this will work for you. There are better choices in the Black & Decker lineup though. This trimmer was not designed for tall people and it hurts your back from stooping to use it. I wish I had gotten the 18 volt model now. It's bigger and the battery is removable.
THIS PRODUCT IS VERY USELESS, WE CHARGED IT OVERNIGHT AND WAS ONLY ABLE TO USE IT ABOUT 10 MINUTES.
Bought this right before the summer and it did not last more than 8 weeks. Not exactly a good long-term investment. The plastic casing on the bottom shattered while trimming by the sidewalk with very little pressure against the concrete. But even though that happened, it's not the most annoying thing about this product...the battery life is terrible. I have a very small lawn, but can only do about half of it before the battery is totally dead. So I'd have to recharge and finish the next day. Might as well spend the extra money on something with a longer battery life, with a cord or gas powered.
