It far exceded my expectatoins
This is my third smoker (previously owned Brinkman "bullet" smoker - tough to use; and a Masterbuilt smoker from Sam's Club - worked well, but it was cheap junk and completely broke after less than two years). The Bradley Original smoker has an intriguing design (with dual controls for smoke and heat), and did an excellent job with my first run of Baby Back pork ribs. One note - the smoker only got up to about 250 degrees, running on high, and it is spec'd to do 320. My guess is I'd have to let it run for a few hours to get it up to the high heat. However, I never smoke meat over 250 anyway, so probably a moot point.
I am very pleased with the quality of the smoked meats coming out of this smoker. Even though I have slow (8 to 12 hours) smoked meat (ribs, roasts, etc.) for years on a grill, after using my new Bradley smoker I wish I had purchased the new smoker a long time ago. The quality and taste is far superior to anything I have ever cooked in the past. I've used the recipes included in the book and been amazed especially the salmon curing recipe. I do not care that much for salmon but I do now. I'm not happy with the fact that I have to purchase only their smoking bisquettes and the price isn't exactly low but, the finished meat is superior to anything I have ever had in the past and I can even cold smoke if I want to.
Best smoker I have ever had. It's perfect! Put the food in, fill the wood disc holder, and let it cook. The brisket was absolutely great. Tender and juicy!
This product performs exactly as advertised and is a breeze to set up and use with very predictable results. I've used it three times and the only thing I wish I had done was to have purchased the computer controlled version. I guess that I am getting old and lazy. Fine product
Smoked some bratwurst and venison sticks, did a very good job. Figuring out the temperature control is a common sense process. I do wish more recipes came with the product and there is no mention of dehydrating produce, which is what my wife is interested in. The price beat everyone else by $50 and ship-to-store is an excellent way to go. I had no idea Walmart even stocked this item until checking their website.
I had never used a smoker prior to buying this. The smoker is easy to setup, easy to use and the results are excellent. I've smoked a pork loin and a turkey breast and am going to try a pork roast this weekend. Also, I spent quite a bit of time shopping around for the best price and Wal-Mart beat everyone. Note: smoker doesn't come with flavor bisquettes so make sure to order those too.
I bought the Bradley Smoker for my husband for Christmas 2008 and we all love it ! It was very easy to set up and to operate ! Food is great but do wish we had used Hickory Bisquetts instead of mesquite. Mesquite is a little too strong as fas as flavor goes. Good Product !
I was very impressed when I unboxed this smoker, quality and craftsmanship insinde and out are much higher than Masterbuilt smokers in similar price range, independent smoke generator hot plate and automatic wood loader is a plus, the only negative side is that it has poor heat control and has no meat probe where Masterbuilt digital smokers cost slightly more but come with better heat controll. I used it outside when temps were 30-32F and with heat on highest setting the inside temp would not go higher than 190F and heater element light was not on all the time indicating that built in heat controller did not put full load on the heater element. I purchased a separate heat controller from Auberins.com that was designed for these smokers and could not be happier. With extra controller (70-120 dollars) I can preprogram the smoker to run up to six steps and it will do everything on its own.
I bought the Bradley smoker primarily to smoke summer sausages, bologna, etc. The internal compartment is not tall enough to hang 20 inch summer sausages. I have to use smaller casings or hang fewer sausages at a slant. It does a reasonable job of smoke curing if you can fit the sausages inside. It doesn't do quite so well as a smoke cooker. I smoke briskets, hams, and turkeys at 225F. This smoker had trouble reaching 170F. The meat didn't have much, if any, smoke ring when done. I'll keep using the Bradley smoker for bacon and small sausages, but I'll buy or build a "real" smokehouse for the serious stuff - probably for less than the $300 I spent on the Bradley.
