Phone works great just what I was looking for.....
I have used 9800 for about 3 years now very dependable,9810 puts a stamp on it.
Ordered it for my dad. He seems happy with it. Still exploring it and getting to know the phone.
I first bought this phone about 4 years ago. I dropped it about 50 times over the years, I slammed it down on its face on concrete forcefully by accident, I dropped it in water briefly, and I slept on it multiple times while the slider was open. It just keeps going. I like the qwerty keyboard and the touch screen. It is a great phone with excellent phone quality. It feels like quality when I pick it up and use it. It is easy to use for beginners and has many features that makes it great for a person to grow into, or its excellent for an advanced person. Now I am purchasing one for my 83 year old mom. She decided it's time to get a phone so this will be her first phone other than a landline. She is looking forward to texting and getting texts from her grandchildren. Although I now also own a BlackBerry Passport, I use the Torch right along side the Passport. If my original Torch every gives up I will purchase another one. Its just an all-around great phone!
good phone for the money spent.
I bought this for my wife because touchscreens do not work well for her for some strange reason. There are not many phones left with keyboards, so the choices are limited. So far, this phone has worked well for her, and it has decent features. It's not an advanced phone, but it is better than a simple feature phone. This is an unlocked GSM phone, so it will only work on AT&T and T-Mobile networks in the United States (and those companies that lease their networks. It will not work for CDMA networks like Sprint and Verizon.
If you don't care about sending photos, then buy the phone. The MMS feature on the ATT unlocked Blackberry Torch, will not work with Straight Talk or with any other provider. Even if a sim card kit is purchased, MMS will not work. Google it! (Wish I had)
As a replacement for my crashed 4 year old 9800 Torch, this one will do. It's just a surplus AT&T Torch with a newer OS version and the SIM card removed...just toss in your SIM card and roll with it. Mine appeared to be a phone programmed for UK due to the wall charger and Euro/USA travel wall adapters, as well as the spelling of words on the display...checked and sure enough it was set for English (UK) as default. That said, I have no need for chargers or batteries, as I now have 2 spare batteries and several charging options including external. If you really need a new phone with 4G, this is not for you, as 3G will be phased out sometime in the near future in many areas. As a replacement for the beloved Torch with AT&T as a carrier, yes it's an inexpensive option that will swap seamlessly...well, unless your old Torch won't run, preventing recovery of data, as was my case.
This phone is the most complicated phone I have ever tried !!! Way too much for a phone. My Samsung Galaxy S5 is not going anywhere !!!!
DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE FROM WALMART! It is NOT an "unlocked" telephone! It is a HACKED AT AND T phone, and unless you are on that carrier, NONE OF THE DATA FUNCTIONS WILL WORK, and you will be unable to use email or Blackberry protect, or music services, or anything! I JUST SPENT ALL MY CHRISTMAS 150 DOLLAR GIFT CARD ON IT! It works ONLY as a telephone!
