I USED WHEAT GERM FOR MANY YEARS. THIS IS A NEW ITEM FOR USE BY MY HUSBAND. HOPEFULLY HE LIKES IT AS I DO.
Bob's Red Mill Wheat Germ from Swanson is an excellent product. It tastes much better than the different grocery store brands that we have used in the past.
This product is a breakfast essential on top of my yogurt. I know that I am getting one of the best sources of vitamin E and B vitamins plus minerals that I need every day to stay healthy!
I always add about a fourth cup ito the four when I make bread or cookies. I just believe it is good for health.
Saw the large package when it arrived. Now have already made wheat germ pancakes, added to brownies, and oatmeal, and yogurt. So many recipes are calling me to use my large supply. Am keeping it in the refrigerator to maintain a fresh supply. More than satisfied.
For years I've been using Kretchner's wheat germ in my recipes. After I moved I've been unable to find Kretchner's in a larger size. The small size is used up too quickly and is expensive. So I searched the Walmart site and found the Bobs Red Mill Natural Raw Wheat Germ. It looks exactly like the Kretchner's. This item does not come in a glass jar. It is wrapped like a sack of flour. The larger size is also more reasonably priced. I have not used it yet in cookies or meals but I'm sure it will be fine.
I use a lot of wheat germ, normally purchasing the store brand of my local healthfood store. Despite this BRM product allegedly being 'raw' it's nothing like what I usually use and is more toasted in texture, flavor. More dense, less 'fluffy.' Dark in color, rather crunchy, a different taste than I'm used to.
