The base is actually 22 inches in diameter. I am not sure there is another base made that is stronger and heavier. At least I didn't find one in my hours of searching for the perfect base for our heavy sling fabric 9 foot umbrella. This base is perfect for it. It's made of crushed stone and resin. I am very happy about that, as I will never have to worry about kids and people resting their feet on it and damaging it in any way! It is unbelievably heavy and large and holds our umbrella extremely well! I posted a picture as well. The umbrella wasn't in the base when the picture was taken due to an approaching severe storm.
Replaced an older, concrete-filled base with this base to stabilize our umbrella, which is in middle of a round 4 person table. IMO, the design of the new base creates a simple, but more elegant, look. Although it is lighter than our old base, it has still help very well during some high winds this spring.
We purchased two of these umbrella stands in the early part of August. One box was missing some of the hardware. We had to notify the company of our situation and they immediately rectified the problem. The stands are a good value for their purpose.
This is clearly a stand that should be used in a permanent place. I saw some of the reviews about it cracking and such but I've not had any of those issues. I keep it in the same place on my patio and only have to move it slightly when I'm cranking the umbrella down. I think if it's moved around a lot you could incur some issues as it is a concrete type of base. I recommend this base as it's held up well for me and I've had it a month or so. The post for the pole does occasionally loosen up but it's easily tighten up with a few turns. For the cost and free delivery ( the poor FedEx guys got a work out! This thing is heavy!) you can't go wrong.
I bought this for my backyard umbrella and it works just fine.
I needed something sturdy to hold a 9' umbrella in the sand. It is doing what it is suppose to.
Beautiful design but cracked down the middle:( We bought 2 and they both had problems with the knob that tightens the ring to hold the umbrella. We just delt with it since we only used the umbrellas we were outside and then put them away. We went out back back one day & my husband told me the base was broken. We had planned on buying another one but unfortunately I will be looking for a different brand/model now :(
I'm giving 2 stars only because is a beautiful base. The wind will knock down the umbrella easily and the screw to fix the umbrella post to the base broke down when trying to secure the umbrella. Next Time I will buy a heavier base.
Would not hold the umbrella upright had to keep tightening up the screw finally my husband had to re fabricate in order for it to work properly nothing like spending hard earned money on something that does not function as stated only to have to put more money into it to make it work
I need to buy another weight because this is not heavy enough.
