I upgraded my RV's stereo system to a Boss unit from a Sony one. The Boss system's large touch screen and easy navigation were a huge improvement. With Apple CarPlay, I can access various features like Navigation, SiriusXM, and Spotify. Adding a double USB extender made it convenient to connect my devices. The sound quality is impressive for the price. I highly recommend this system.
I wasn't expecting much from this unit, but it surprised me with its very good sound quality. Replacing my Kenwood unit with the Boss Elite, I was almost blown away by the sound. Installation was simple with the right interface. The bright screen is manageable for the price and screen size, which is unbeatable.
The Boss stereo equipment is not top-tier like Kenwood or Alpine, but I've had no issues with their $1k head units. The touch screen is impressive with decent graphics, though not 4K quality. The touch sensitivity is like a modern phone. Boot time is 12 seconds, but it's not noticeable. Menus are easy to navigate. A replacement is on the way for the loud volume issue when turning on the system. Phone calls start at normal volume but drop to zero, requiring quick adjustment. Hopefully, the replacement will fix this. Overall, it's a good unit, especially when using CarPlay with Apple.
Consider purchasing the wireless Android Auto version due to the wired connection issues I have experienced with Google. The wired connection frequently disconnects, which can be frustrating. I have heard that Apple Carplay does not have the same problem, but that would require using an Apple device. While I have not used the wireless Boss unit specifically, I have had success with other wireless systems in rental cars. The unit's brightness is a drawback, even at the dimmest setting, which is still too bright at night. I believe investing in an AMOLED screen would improve this issue, despite potential cost implications. The main concern remains the instability of the wired connection, prompting me to purchase a USB kill switch for quick resolution during drives.
The size is good and Apple CarPlay works fine, but Bluetooth often disconnects. An issue I dislike is the erratic volume control that sometimes plays music loudly without my control. This caused damage to one of my Bose speakers. I suggest using this mainly for a big screen.
I have connected all electrical components carefully, but the audio in my car still fails occasionally. I am confident in my connections, but I have to reset the system or restart the car to fix the issue. I recommend investing in a better quality audio system like Bose, JBL, or Alpine.
The radio is a good value for its price, but has a bug where brightness settings don't save for day and night. A firmware update from Boss fixed the brightness issue but caused all sound output to break. Boss didn't provide a solution or warranty without a receipt. Consider the Boss BCPA10 model which may have these issues fixed.
I experienced multiple problems with the unit. It randomly turns off for days, sometimes doesn't turn on, and other times won't shut off, draining the battery. I was late to work due to the battery drainage. Overall, it has spent more time not working than working.
I encountered problems with the head unit while using Android Auto. Customer support explained that the unit doesn't support Google Pixel or Samsung phones due to hardware limitations. Unfortunately, there is no fix available, and they cannot update the Android Auto version.
The installation was easy with clear markings on the harness and 6 channel RCA outputs. The unit looks stylish with a large screen for easy access. The manual is high quality. However, the unit is not user-friendly, lacks compatibility with OEM systems, and has poor sound quality. The highs, mids, and lows are disappointing. It has random behavior, unreliable Bluetooth, excessive brightness, and crackling sound issues. The latest problem is the unit starting at full volume with a malfunctioning volume button. Consider reputable brands like JVC, Kenwood, Pioneer, Sony, or Alpine for a better experience.
