[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've had this generator since 2011 and it is simply incredible. Mind you, I do have professional annual maintenance done on it. All in all, a great generator that has served its purpose at least once a year.
I installed 10kw whole house generator just before the early snow storm of 2009' , power was out for 5 days but I had every thing up and running (ran for 5 days with not so much as a hiccup) could not be happier with it.
I chose this 10kW generator for 2 very important features; 1-It's small footprint, and 2-The 10kW power allowed me to bring over 16 circuits from my 200amp circuit breaker box, which included all rooms in a 3,200 sq. ft. house with lights, computer, TV's, refrigerator, micro-wave, toaster oven, garbage disposal, sump pump, blower motor for the furnace and the garage door opener. The only items not capable of coverage were the central air conditioning, washer, dryer, dish washer, oven and stove-top burners. The unit was installed just outside the house next to the central air conditioning unit and close to the natural gas line into the house. It was installed in August and immediately started running 20 minutes each week every Tuesday afternoon which charges the battery. Its sounds like a lawn mower when it runs. This sound was very comforting this past February when big snow storm caused a continuous 100 hour power outage. It kicked in automatically within seconds and ran flawlessly with no power surges to any of the appliances, computers or TVs. It was like a power outage never happened and I have told anyone who is looking for a whole house generator to seriously check out the various Briggs and Stratton models that are available. One picture shows the outside installation with both the gas and power line connection. The second picture shows the 16 circuit Transfer Switch installed next to the 200amp circuit breaker. You can save yourself money by ordering the unit from a department store, selecting an electrician and a plumber.
I had this unit installed in August and a week later a bird landed on a transformer breaker and caused a power outage. The generator kicked in and performed as expected. Weekly exercise occurs exactly on time with the unit relatively quiet. I especially like the footprint of the unit and the fact that the 16 circuits provide most of my household electricity needs.
Just installed one of these 10 kw 200 amp last week end. It can be done if you can read a schematic. Turned off power to home unit powers up right away. Powers restored no one will notice no loss of power after power is restored. Easy to set dip swithes to tell generator what It is 10, 15,kw. Also for warm up time 20 seconds for temps over 40, 50 sec for under 40 degrees f. Wish I had one at my place. Awesome generator and trasfer switch amazing product.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Had it installed about 3 months ago. Didn't think was so loud at other people's house but I live in the city. My husband has certain devices that we need electricity all the time. I am on a sleep app machine. I was always worried If my hydro went out.
After several years of ownership recently we are required to perform expensive repairs and parts replacements. In addition by purchasing an early generation product wer are missing features provided in later models recent problems included initially the failure to start during a power outage to the system starting and running continuesly when there was not a commercial power outage... Sort have lost the comfort feeling that was the entire reason to purchase in the first place
I've owned the unit for (7) years meticulous maintenance. beginning of Jan 2017. major failures of key components. I have MANY service related repair by certified BS repair. Sump/Case Gasket failure due to moisture build-up in crankcase, control module failure(moisture). Starter failure, etc. I have lost all confidence in the B+S Products.
We purchased this unit in April 2021. Since then we've lost power twice due to storms. Both times the unit started right up after the power went out. Both times the unit stopped working with in 24 hours. The error was load voltage both times. *Mind you we only have a few things running in the house. No major appliances except a refrigerator. The first time the power went out the company we bought it from came out but pretty much did nothing. The second time the power went out they came out and changed a few things and it's still only ran for a few hours. Now they're going to have to take it back to the shop to do some more testing and repairs on it. The unit is just over a year old and has only been used for two power outages and has failed both times.
This unit is total unreliable. It only started one time when it was needed. When Sandy hit my main circuit board blew.I was with out power for 24 hours, until a service tech replaced it. I lost another board with in a year. A total of 3 including the original. The latest break down was a voltage regulator. This part was of a poor quality and caused it to short out when exposed to water drops from snow. I would replace this unit but I have too much money invested in it. Run away
